Does your child or teen want to explore the fascinating world of coding? Through hands-on learning, The Math Outreach Office at the Department of Mathematics, University of Toronto offers fun and creative coding camps for students in Grades 1–12 this Winter. In these dynamic programs, kids build a strong academic foundation in both Math and Computer Science. Better yet, these camps also help develop their creativity and problem-solving, as they draw on their math knowledge for use in real-world applications.

Thanks to the professional and engaging University of Toronto instructors, every session of this program is both interactive and inspiring! Whether your child is new to coding or they wish to take their skills to the next level, these day camps strive to challenge the participants’ young minds. In addition, these programs complement the students’ classroom education, while encouraging them to appreciate the many wonderful aspects of Mathematics and computers.

University of Toronto Math Outreach Camps Combine Learning, Innovation and Fun!

If your child wants to learn from the experts at the University of Toronto, they can have an unforgettable experience with their Winter camps at the Math Outreach Office at the Department of Mathematics! This year, they offer in-person and online programming, both intended for exceptional students looking for new ways to stimulate their interest in Math concepts.

In-Person Math Enrichment (February 7 — March 7, Excluding Feb. 14)

Held at their downtown St. George campus, students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 participate in weekly project-focused daytime programs featuring interactive educational activities in the subjects of Coding and Computer Science. These enrichment courses are designed for students in search of an academic challenge. Ideal for those confident in math concepts at their grade level, these camps are known for encouraging students through their ongoing Math studies, too!

  • Grade 1-2: FUNdamentals
  • Grade 2-3 Enrichment: Math in the Kitchen
  • Grade 3-4 Enrichment: Math in Biology
  • Grade 5-6 Enrichment: Math in Magic Tricks
  • Grade 7-8 Enrichment: Exploring Number Systems
  • Grade 9-10 Enrichment: The Basics of Calculus

Online Math in Coding Program (February 10 — March 5)

Using both Scratch and Python, the University of Toronto Math Outreach’s Coding program teaches students about using Math in Coding over four weeks this Winter. Participants new to coding can join the introduction-level courses to learn about the beautiful connection between Math and Coding. Next, experienced students can then enroll in the intermediate-level courses.

  • Grade 5-6: Introduction to Math in Coding (Scratch and Lynx)
  • Grade 7-8: Intermediate Math in Coding (Python)
