What should kids do when they come down with a bad case of the summer doldrums? Join the Medics Camp Summer Camps, which have the diagnosis for fun! These are science-based summer camps that let participants learn about health and the human body, and discover more about the world of medical science. Kids have the opportunity to gain important knowledge while having fun in a relaxed summer camp environment and making new friends at the same time.

These educational programs seamlessly combine learning with fun hands-on activities. Therefore, this makes Medics Camp the ideal summer activity for intellectually curious kids who are also passionate about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). For kids aged 5-12 and teens aged 13-17 who are aspiring to become future doctors and healthcare professionals, the engaging topics covered at Medics Camp both challenge and inspire these budding geniuses! Every day in each age group is a different experience for kids to immerse themselves in the world of medicine.

In-Person Summer Camps

Medics Camp offers four different age-based summer camps with the program themes named Discover, Explore, Forensic Medicine and FALCON. These take place in person at locations in Richmond Hill and Markham. These day camps give kids a unique STEM experience that ignites their curiosity as they participate in different age-appropriate activities. There are new theme-based experiences and adventures every camp day, through engaging, fun and educational experiments, games and crafts.

Discover Theme (Ages 5-12)
Medics Camp Summer Camps are the first step in their professional journey for kids who are interested in discovering the world of medical science! In this program theme,  campers learn about the basic human skeletal system. They also examine X-rays and apply real splints, casts and slings. Furthermore, the activities cover various practical applications, like basic first aid skills and hand-washing, and finding out when to call emergency services. Campers also use real medical equipment to take vital signs while learning about the heart and cardiovascular system. The anatomy of the heart can be seen up close with the optional observation of a commercial pig heart specimen.

Explore Theme (Ages 5-12)
This program theme explores different parts of the human body, including the brain and topics such as the nervous system, mental health pet health and veterinary medicine. An optional observation of a sheep brain specimen is offered for campers who want to see the anatomy of a brain up close. Campers will learn about our food’s journey through the digestive system, travelling all the way through the body until (ahem) evacuation. Campers also learn about the various functions of our eyes and ears, plus sign language and the braille alphabet. Plus, the young medics will develop their first aid skills and even get to practise their surgical skills.

Forensic Medicine (Ages 7-12)
Is your older kid interested in crime-solving? If so, they will love to spend this exciting week identifying and analyzing microscopic clues! The Junior Medics examine various aspects of forensics, such as DNA, blood basics and dactyloscopy (fingerprints), and also the basics of odontology (teeth), entomology (insects) and anthropology (bones). Blood typing and DNA extraction are popular experiments for this theme week. The Mini Medics group will examine bugs and nature, fingerprints and footprints as well as an optional owl pellet activity. Medics in this group will learn about genetic traits in both humans and animals and along the way, campers will use their problem-solving skills to complete team challenges and develop their observational skills. Lastly, at the end of the week, they will use all these new skills to solve a robbery!

Camp FALCON — First Aid and Leadership (Ages 13-17)
For teens who enjoy medical science and who want to take their leadership skills to the next level, they can embark on a journey combining first aid skills and leadership skills. Teens will learn first aid and CPR skills and have the opportunity to become Red Cross certified in Standard First Aid and CPR level C as part of their camp week at no additional cost. The leadership portion of this program will focus on building self-esteem and confidence, improving communication skills, inspiring creativity, collaborating to achieve a shared goal and engendering trust and compassion for others. By the end of this Medics Camp program, young people will feel ready to handle medical emergencies and everyday challenges to become better leaders at home, in school and in their communities.
