Celebrate Earth Day throughout the month of April at Toronto History Museums to enjoy a variety of environment-focussed events and cultural opportunities. Most events are free, including up-cycling workshops, clean-up events, art exhibits, and community walks for all ages.

Colborne Lodge

  • Cherry Blossom Season at Colborne Lodge

    Celebrate Cherry Blossom season in High Park! Learn about the history of the park’s cherry trees and see reproductions of 19th century Japanese art and poetry, and add your own haiku to the display.
  • Community Clean Up at Colborne Lodge

    Help clean up the natural landscape around the Colborne Lodge museum in High Park. Litter bags and a warm beverage will be provided, but please bring your own gloves.

Fort York National Historic Site

  • Community Clean Up at Fort York
    When: April 20, 2024, 10:00-11:30am
    Help clean parts of the 43-acre Fort York historic historic site, in the public space around the museum and the Garrison Common. Litter bags will be provided, but please bring your own gloves.

Gibson House

  • Hands-on Textile Up-cycling Workshop at Gibson House Museum
    When: April 6-7 & 13-14, 1:00-3:00pm
    Crafters aged 8 and up can learn how to up-cycle pieces of clothing into new fabrics, such as up-cycling socks and T-shirts into mats.

    City of Toronto residents join together to join the spring cleaning in their neighbourhood parks and public spaces.
  • Earth Day at Gibson House Museum

    Try hands-on crafts and textile up-cycling, bring your electronic waste for recycling, and see the unveiling of a community mural created by Indigenous artist Mo Thunder and North York Arts.

Montgomery’s Inn

  • Mimico Creek Walk at Montgomery’s Inn

    Join a guided walk through Tom Riley Park to learn about the history of Mimico Creek and its local communities, as well as the protection of the local watershed.
  • Spring Renewal at Montgomery’s Inn with Sagatay!
    When: April 20, 2024, 1:00-5:00pm. First seating 1:00pm, Second seating 3:30pm (Tickets must be purchased in advance)
    Montgomery’s Inn presents an afternoon program with Sagatay, a life skills program for Indigenous men. Share a savoury and sweet Bannock and bottomless tea, and learn of the importance of the Spring Equinox to Indigenous communities.
  • Community Clean Up at Montgomery’s Inn

    Help clean up of the northern portion of Tom Riley Park and enjoy a free cup of tea following the clean-up. Litter bags will be provided, but please bring your own gloves.

Scarborough Museum

  • Community Walks at Scarborough Museum

    Join guided community walks, taking place on weekends in April, where you’ll enjoy the beauty of Thomson Park and learn about Scarborough’s vibrant ecosystems.
  • Earth Month Activities at Scarborough Museum

    On weekends in April, join pop-up talks about the historical and contemporary practices of textile recycling, family-friendly kitchen demonstrations and nature-based activities.
  • Community Clean Up at Scarborough Museum
    When: April 20, 2024, 11:30am-2:30pm
    Help clean up the gardens and natural landscape around the museum, then enjoy a small community fair with local outreach organizations.

Spadina Museum

  • Community Clean Up at Spadina Museum
    When: April 20, 2024, 9:30-11:00am
    City of Toronto residents join together to join the spring cleaning in their neighbourhood parks and public spaces.

Todmorden Mills

  • Community Clean Up at Todmorden Mills
    When: April 21, 2024, 10:00am-12:00pm
    Help clean up the grounds and green spaces along Pottery Road with the Wildflower Preserve volunteers and Toronto History Museum youth volunteers. Afterwards, stay for refreshments and a tour of the historic houses.
