The Mississauga Library invites families to join them for their free Summer Fun programs, including the yearly TD Summer Reading Club program, Youth Summer Series contests/challenges, as well as regular summer performances and story time presentations. Make this summer one for the books!

All parents want to find ways to stave off their kids’ brain drain over their school vacation! Summer reading programs are a proven educational tool that helps maintain students’ academic achievements over the summer and helping bridge the gap between school years. Even better, kids can get off their electronic devices, learn and have fun at the same time!

TD Summer Reading Club

Canada’s biggest summer reading program, TD Summer Reading Club, is back for another fun year of reading! Kids can visit any branch of the Mississauga Library during the summer to register in-person, or they can sign up online at www.tdsummerreadingclub.ca. Otherwise, there are no rules — the kids can read anything that interests them, all summer long!

This popular program is great for kids aged 3-12, regardless of their reading interests and abilities. Co-created and delivered by public libraries across the country to celebrate Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, TD Summer Reading Club inspires kids to read independently while also having fun with reading, which helps all children develop a lifelong love of reading.

Not to mention, it’s FREE to enter and kids can even collect prizes all summer! Families can visit any of the library locations to collect stamps, stickers and cool prizes. Then, on their final visit, kids can fill out a ballot for a chance to win the grand prize at the end of the summer.

Youth Summer Series

Calling all teen book lovers, storytellers and adventure seekers… this chapter is just for you! The Mississauga Library’s Youth Summer Series invites more experienced readers to participate in exciting challenges, creative programs and author talks they won’t want to miss.

Read and Roam: Book Challenge

Teens can spend their summer participating in an intriguing program where they can read, discover and win! Mississauga residents ages 12-24, can visit a Mississauga Library location anytime between June 30 and August 30 to pick up a Read and Roam booklet. It includes a bingo card to complete various activities and reading prompts, along with earning badges, plus a book tracker to create a list of the completed reading.

Story Slam: Writing Contest

Are your teens interested in creative writing? Whether they are writing for the first time or they are already a seasoned storyteller, the Story Slam Writing Contest is an amazing new learning opportunity for young Mississauga writers.

Running from July 14 to August 11, young writers can submit a short story about this year’s theme, “What the Earth Tells Us: Between Sky and Soil”. Perhaps they would like to share a story set in their Mississauga neighbourhood or create an entirely imagined world. This writing contest gives teens the opportunity to explore their connection to the natural world, detailing its wonders along with its challenges and uncertain future in the face of climate change.

Sauga City Quest: Scavenger Hunt

Mississauga can discover more about their hometown with a fun scavenger hunt! (More details to come.)
