National Ballet of Canada’s “Swan Lake” is the epitome of classical ballet. Set to Tchaikovsky’s glittering score, it is beloved the world over for its lyricism, musicality and brilliant choreography. This ballet is also a love story that is both symbolic and intimate.

Artistic Director Emerita Karen Kain gives renewed emphasis to the emotion and humanity of “Swan Lake” in a new staging as a gesture of love to a company and art form that has been her home for over 50 years. Choreographers often modify the scenario without changing all of the choreography, since so many of the dance pieces are so familiar they are therefore untouchable.
