Featuring harmonies and melodies from all over the world, Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) presents “SingSong” as part of their Young People’s Concert Series, a fun-filled afternoon of songs that embrace the power of music. Perfect for families with kids aged 5-12, these matinées are wonderful for both the young and young-at-heart! Come and create core family memories as you introduce your children to the joys of orchestral music and live performance. Even better, tickets start at only $23!

Whether it is a viral hit on Spotify, a beloved folk song or a classical piece by a famous composer, songs inspire us all! They help us express ourselves and connect us as people. Around the world, every culture looks at music and songs in its own special way. In this concert, you can experience the international power of song in various styles and musical eras. As an extra treat, the performers encourage you to sing some songs too!

Conducted by Barrett Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, “SingSong” features the musical talents of Yelin Youn on flute (winner of the 2022/23 TSYO Concerto Competition), with special guest vocalists Todd Jang (baritone) and Midori Marsh (soprano), along with the full Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Join a Free Pre-Show Workshop!

If you’re feeling a little shy initially or you need some help warming up your vocal chords, be sure to arrive at Roy Thomson Hall early and join an introductory singing workshop! Families get the opportunity to sing alongside the talented choristers of the Toronto Children’s Chorus, and be led by its Artistic Director, Zimfira Poloz.

What’s more, this pre-concert activity is included in the price of your ticket! There are introductory singing workshops before each of the matinée performances, taking place in the theatre lobby from 12:50-1:20pm for the 1:30pm performance and 3:20-3:50pm for the 4:00pm performance.

Relaxed Performances

The TSO strives to support all patrons, including the neurodiverse and disabled community. Therefore, while Young People’s Concerts introduce children to the symphony experience in a casual kid-friendly environment, they also offer a Relaxed Performance for “SingSong” at 11:00am. This performance provides specific accommodations that support the neurodiverse and disabled community. The flexible environment is also available to anyone wishing for a more casual concert experience. This is especially helpful for parents who are worried about whether their kids will have trouble sitting still.

Audience members can feel free to move around during the show and/or vocally express themselves. Patrons can even leave the concert hall during the performance if they wish. The venue guide at Roy Thomson Hall gives full details on ways to help reduce anxiety during the concert experience, such as visiting the quiet room equipped with comfortable seating. Another option to help patrons feel more comfortable is to use sound-dampening headphones, which can be signed out before the concert and returned afterward.
