The Bentway presents “STREET”, a series of free art installations, roving performances and celebrations on Toronto’s roadways, sidewalks, parks and public spaces.

The pandemic prompted cities around the world to reconsider the role of their streets: how have our streets changed, and where will we take them next? Thus we are reminded why streets are the city’s “most vital organs.”

STREET features artists, urban planners, educators and change-makers from Canada and beyond. Together they invite you to see the streets of Toronto anew, both under the Gardiner and beyond.

Events and Activities include:

PARADE

When: May 26 — August 21, 2022, Open all day, with special sound performance occurring daily at 5:00pm.
Where: The Bentway, 250 Fort York Boulevard, Toronto
An installation, designed by internationally renowned designer Mimi Lien, that infuses the Bentway’s skate trail with the vitality of the city and the ever-shifting variables of the streetscape.

Roller Skating with SUSO Skate

When: June 9 — August 21, 2022
Where: The Bentway
SUSO Skate Co. (formerly Retro Rolla) is a health-forward recreation brand specializing in outdoor roller skate rentals and sales.

Moko Jumbie Mas Camp

When: June 18, 25 & July 9 OR June 19, 26 & July 10, 2:30-5:30pm
Where: The Bentway Studio, 55 Fort York Boulevard, Toronto
A free series of youth-centred workshops in costume-making, stilt-walking, and more. The workshops will be led by local and international artists.

Nightwalks with Teenagers

When: July 14—16, 2022, 9:00—11:00pm
Where: The Bentway Studio
Performing arts group Mammalian Diving Reflex, along with a group of local teens, invites you to “walk on the wild side” after sundown. Experience the streets, alleys, and secret urban spaces around The Bentway from their point of view.

The Bentway Block Party

When: August 14, 2022, 12:00pm—10:00pm
The Bentway Block Party is back! After a two-year hiatus, the day-long celebratory street party is back with a jam-packed day filled with musical performances, family-friendly activities and workshops, food and drink, fashion, drag, dancing, face painting, and more.
