It’s time to express yourself! Kids can get dramatic this summer at Young People’s Theatre (YPT) Summer Drama Camps, with programs from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 12. These dynamic, exciting day camps offer a creative summer in the new classrooms at YPT 161 Studios and the theatre spaces just across the street.
Young People’s Theatre (YPT) is Canada’s largest and oldest professional theatre for young people. They produce respected, valued, and entertaining plays for families. Their Summer Drama Camps offer something for everyone. Campers can spend their summers getting creative, making new friends, and discovering new ways to express themselves. Of course, they’ll have lots of fun along the way!
Young People’s Theatre (YPT) — Summer Drama Camp Programs
There are eight weeks of vibrant summer camps at YPT, where your kids will shine! Camps run from 9 AM to 3:30 PM, but you can purchase after care until 5 PM. Kindergarten camps run for one week, and all other camps run for two weeks, allowing participants to engage more fully in creative theatre. At the end of each session, the group performs for family and friends on a YPT stage!
In each of the Young People’s Theatre Summer Drama Camp programs, the campers will work on developing their personal voice through acting, movement, and creating characters. The kids develop confidence and creativity through drama exercises, improv activities, and collaboration with their peers. As the session goes on, the group’s teamwork, communication and trust evolve and they create their own play with a unique plot and characters. Finally, with much anticipation, the pieces are performed on a YPT stage on the final day of camp.
Specialty Programs
Junior & Teen Intensive Camps
These exciting and robust programs are designed for campers entering Grades 7 – 8 and Grades 9 – 12, where the students spend two weeks creating and performing their own play. It’s perfect for campers looking to take their acting and theatre-making to the next level!
Musical Theatre Camp
Does your child want to be a “triple threat”? In this Musical Theatre Camp for kids in Grades 1 – 3, 4 – 6, and 7 – 8, the students do it all, including singing, dancing and acting. The campers work to become an ensemble of “triple threat” performers, performing songs and scenes from a professional musical. Along the way, these activities allow them to develop multiple theatrical skills and have fun with new friends!
Theatre Leaders Camp
Youth who have a passion for Theatre for Young Audiences, and enjoy coaching younger students, should check out the Theatre Leaders Camp. This exciting program is for students entering Grades 9 – 12. They will spend two weeks creating an original performance and developing leadership skills by managing workshops for the Kindergarten to Grade 6 camps.
