Young People's Theatre (YPT) Summer Drama Camp Encourages Kids to Express Themselves!

Kids can get dramatic this summer at Young People’s Theatre (YPT) with their Summer Drama Camp, including programs ranging in age from Junior Kindergarten all the way up to Grade 12! The YPT Drama School offers eight weeks of dynamic and exciting day camps in the brand-new classrooms at YPT 161 Studios and the theatre spaces just across the street.

At the Young People’s Theatre (YPT) Summer Drama Camp, there is something for everyone! Campers can spend their summers getting creative, making new friends, discovering new ways to express themselves, and of course, having lots of fun doing it! Along with another exciting season of Musical Theatre Camp and Film Camp, YPT offers two brand-new camps this year: the Junior Intensive Camp (Grade 7-8) and Teen Intensive Camp (Grade 9-12). Plus, After-Camp Fun is available for all grades and programs.

Furthermore, YPT has added more sessions for each age group. All of the Summer Camp programs run for two weeks so the participants can fully delve into their creative theatre and film projects, except the Kindergarten programs, which are one-week long. Then, at the end of each session, the group performs for family and friends on a YPT stage!

Young People’s Theatre (YPT) — Summer Drama Camp Programs

In each of the Young People’s Theatre Summer Drama Camp programs, the campers will work on developing their personal voice through acting, movement and creating characters. Through drama exercises and improv activities, as well as collaborating with their peers, the kids develop confidence and creativity. As the session goes on, the group’s teamwork, communication and trust evolve and they create their own play with a unique plot and characters. Finally, with much anticipation, the pieces are performed on a YPT stage on the final day of camp!

Specialty Programs

Junior & Teen Intensive Camps

These exciting and robust programs are designed for campers entering Grades 7-8 and Grades 9-12, where the students spend two weeks creating and performing their own play. It’s perfect for campers looking to take their acting and theatre-making to the next level! In these specialty camps, students who are passionate and interested in advancing their theatrical skills in these rigorous two-week programs will:

Create a new theatrical presentation and work with a professional director
Develop their voice, movement and improv skills
Advance their scene study/performance skills through both classical and contemporary texts
Collaborate with their peers to become a strong ensemble cast
Perform the original play for friends and family on a YPT stage at the end of the session
Create, laugh with new friends, play games, and HAVE FUN!

Musical Theatre Camp

Does your child want to be a “triple threat”? In this Musical Theatre Camp for kids in Grades 1-6, the students do it all, including singing, dancing and acting. The campers work to become an ensemble of “triple threat” performers, performing songs and scenes from a professional musical. Along the way, these activities allow them to develop multiple theatrical skills and have fun with new friends!

Film Camp

Lights, camera, action! This intensive two-week Film Camp allows campers entering Grades 7-12 to create their own original short film, including production and acting. Not only that, but the students get to explore the full film-making process, from beginning to end, using both professional equipment and everyday technology. The young filmmakers work collaboratively with their peers and develop skills such as directing, writing and editing. Then, at the end of camp, they will host a screening of their original film for their friends and family!
