Learn to Skate

Learn to Skate lessons focus on the fundamentals of skating and prepare participants with the essential skills to participate in hockey, ringette, or figure skating. The participant’s progress through skating levels is based on the completion of the demonstrated skills.

Learn to Skate (Parent and Child) — Ages 3-5
The Parent and Child Learn to Skate class is designed to introduce new skaters to the fundamental skating skills with the assistance of a parent. Qualified instructors lead parents and children through various games and activities to make the children reach a comfort level on the ice. Note: Parents must have competent skating ability in order to help their child during the program.

Learn to Skate (Preschool)Ages 3-5
Pre-School Learn to Skate introduces participants that are more independent to learn the basics of skating skills. Children advance through a progression system by completing selected skill sets to help them get more comfortable on the ice. As skating becomes more natural, participants can then advance into hockey, ringette, figure skating or continue skating recreationally.

Learn to Skate (Youth) — Ages 6-8
Standard Learn to Skate classes focus on the fundamentals of skating, preparing participants with the essential skills to participate in hockey, ringette, or figure skating. The students advance through a progression system by completing selected skill sets (swizzles, strides, stops and turns) to help them perfect their skating abilities.

Hockey Lessons

A kid’s hockey journey starts here. The most fun way to learn is through play based-instruction, and that’s exactly how they’ll thrive in the Canlan Sports™ hockey development programs.

Play to Learn — Ages 4-8
When kids are comfortable on skates, they’ll be ready to join the hockey community. From balance to coordination, students gain the basic fundamentals to progress to the next level in their hockey development.

Play to Develop — Ages 6-12
Get to that next level! Once they have the fundamental hockey skills, participants grow their game through play-based learning that keeps them motivated. Through Canlan’s Play Forward Pathway, they accelerate their development and increase their hockey IQ.

Play to Perform — Ages 8-14
Older players now enhance their game and push all boundaries. High-level participants continue to refine their skills to outperform the competition and challenge themselves.

Specialty Hockey
Canlan Sports has focused hockey programs to improve players’ technique, enhance their skills and play the best game possible. The specialty programs include Passing, Shooting and Scoring, Speed Agility and Stick Handling and Elite Conditioning and Hockey Skills.
