Theatre is more than just acting… It’s also about embracing the joyful and dramatic moments of life! At Great Big Theatre Company (GBTC) summer camps, all kids can shine as they build confidence, make new friends, and learn teamwork.
With 30 years of experience in arts education, GBTC has locations all across the Greater Toronto Area. These summer programs help campers express their emotions and develop their self-confidence performing plays, as well as heading outside for games and sports. Then, at the end of each week, they showcase their talents with a performance for friends and family that they have put together themselves!
Great Big Theatre Company invites aspiring artists all over Southern Ontario to join other kids from their neighbourhood to learn theatre games, stagecraft, improvisation, and performance skills. While engaging in fun games and artistic exercises, the campers also explore their vocal, physical and emotional potential. Throughout the week, GBTC’s enthusiastic camp counsellors and staff members create a supportive environment to make sure every camper gets their moment to step into the spotlight!
Great Big Theatre Company — Theatre Day Camps
This summer, kids and teens aged 6-14 can participate in cooperative, supportive, and non-competitive summer camps with Great Big Theatre Company. In this creative environment, every child is treated equally so they fully express themselves and evolve personally. In fact, the only limit is their imagination!
There are many reasons for children and teens to take part in drama training. It helps develop kids’ imagination, teaches empathy, cooperation and communication skills, and helps them feel emotionally stable. Plus, they certainly have tons of fun! Indeed, GBTC camps are the perfect choice for creative kids who want to participate in all kinds of performance art, including singing, dancing and storytelling.
In these camps, the many aspects of theatre are explored, including musical theatre, mime, and improvisation. The campers learn about technical elements, such as sets and costumes, along with creative aspects, like role-play and voice work. Since it’s summertime, the kids also have fun outside, playing games and sports with all their new friends! Most importantly, everyone leaves smiling at the end of the day.
The Play’s The Thing!
Over the course of each week-long GBTC camp, the different groups collaborate with their peers to assemble a real production. The kids help with all facets of the performance, from selecting costumes and creating sets to casting and performance. The coaches encourage equal participation by all campers, with each age group contributing to the end-of-week show. Families can sign up for one or multiple weeks, since each camp week becomes a different experience and performances change each session. In addition, no one feels left behind because the camper-to-staff ratio is low.
Through the process of preparing the end-of-week show, the participants continue their personal growth while practising teamwork. Slowly but surely, the various elements of the final performance come together. Then on Friday afternoon, the hard work pays off when it’s time to show off their newfound skills with a performance for family and friends! The shows always include short plays and at least one musical number, complete with simple group vocals and choreography.

Summer Schedule: GBTC runs weekly programs in July and August, with full weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. With over 20 Great Big Theatre Company program locations across the GTA, there’s certainly one near you! Plus, extended hours are available for an additional cost.
Fees:
Five-day programs: $360.00 per camper per week
Four-day program (August 4-7): $288.00 per camper per week
Registration also includes a GBTC camp T-shirt (in a choice of sizes)!
