Let your kids explore their creative potential at Great Big Theatre Company (GBTC) summer camps. They have locations all across the Greater Toronto Area, and will get kids performing plays, heading outside for games and sports, and putting together a performance for friends and family!
Great Big Theatre Company has 30 years of experience in arts education. At GBTC summer camps, aspiring artists all over Southern Ontario can join other kids from their neighbourhood to learn improvisation, theatre games, stagecraft and performance. Every week is different and performances change each session, so families can sign up for one or multiple weeks. Plus, the camper-to-staff ratio is low so no one feels left behind. GBTC’s enthusiastic staff members create a warm and supportive environment where every child gets their moment to shine!
Great Big Theatre Company — Theatre Day Camps
At Great Big Theatre Company, kids ages 6 – 14 are invited to summer camps in an open, cooperative, supportive, and non-competitive environment. Every child participates fully and equally in these day camps, with a creative environment where the only limit is imagination! At the end of the day, everyone leaves smiling.
Campers will explore many aspects of theatre, including mime, improvisation, theatre games, and musical theatre. They’ll learn about sets and costumes and they’ll explore storytelling and creative role-play. But it’s summer, so kids will also enjoy playing games and sports outside with their new friends! All their hard work comes together on Friday afternoon, with a performance for family and friends.
In these camps, kids collaborate with their peers in a group setting, with their own age and across age levels for a new experience. Coaches encourage equal participation by all campers, and each age group contributes to the end-of-week show. The kids help with every facet of the performance, from selecting costumes to creating sets. Each age group works with age-appropriate materials and content while continuing to develop each student’s skill levels and learning styles.
Through the process of preparing the weekly show, the participants practise teamwork and continue their personal growth. Slowly but surely, the various elements of the final performance are created, polished, and put into place. Finally, the culmination of the week’s activities includes plays and at least one musical number with simple group vocals and choreography.
GBTC runs weekly programs in July and August, with full-days from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Registrations received by March 31, 2025, will receive an early bird discount and you’ll receive 20% off when you register for multiple camp weeks. Registration includes a GBTC camp T-shirt (in a choice of sizes). Extended hours are available for an additional cost.
