Is your inquisitive student aged 9-14 years looking for a different kind of summer camp this year? The Orchard Lyceum hosts the exceptional Creative Uncommon camp program, full of urban adventures and immersive creative experiences. Located on bustling Queen Street West in the Trinity-Bellwoods neighbourhood, the campers spend their days creating art, stories, and food. In addition, the participants explore their environment in small groups and get outdoors to explore our beautiful city!

As The Orchard Lyceum is an adolescent program in the Montessori school model, the Creative Uncommon summer camp encourages students to learn through experimentation and creation. Guided by The Orchard Lyceum’s Director, Holly Venable and Chef/Artist Sam Higgs, campers spend time in both the visual art workshop and the kitchen for a well-rounded educational experience!

These mentors combine their different experiences to teach an array of artistic disciplines, including:

  • Visual Art — Graphic narrative & sequential art, drawing fundamentals, manga, watercolour painting
  • Making — Silkscreening, cyanotype printing, ink making, collage and assemblage, felting, papermaking
  • Botanical Studies — Gardening, urban foraging
  • Storytelling — Creative writing, film camera experiments
  • Culinary Arts — Food traditions, techniques and skills
  • City Explorations — Real-world critical thinking

Even better, the weekly camp fees include all materials and a daily lunch. So, all the campers need is to arrive ready to get creative and have lots of fun!

About Orchard Lyceum

The Creative Uncommon summer camp is an extension of the curriculum at The Orchard Lyceum, a Montessori school for students in grades 6- 8. This dynamic environment builds upon the foundation created by Casa and Elementary Montessori programs. However, all students are welcome to join!

Activities and lessons at the Lyceum focus on both creative and academic studies in equal measure. As an added bonus, students benefit from a roster of dedicated mentors who love to share their skills and experiences with the students to foster innovation and creativity.
