Tropicana Community Services’ Camp Tropicana provides a creative and physically stimulating experience for young people that is also full of fun! Since 1980, this non-profit organization has offered culturally appropriate and supportive programs to those in need, with a focus on the Black, African, and Caribbean communities of Scarborough and Toronto.
Camp Tropicana — Summer Camp
Camp Highlights
With only 50 spots available per week, this summer day camp for kids aged 4-12 keeps children active in the summer months and sets out to encourage and promote their personal growth.
Camp Tropicana provides children with:
- A supportive and safe environment to socialize and learn
- A mentally, and physically engaging agenda, that includes weekly themes, and integrates activities that celebrate Black heritage and community.
- Fun and engaging educational and recreational activities
Camp Schedule
Tropicana Community Services places campers into three groups by age:
- Red Group: 4-6 (15 children)
- Blue Group: 7 -9 (20 children)
- Green Group: 10-12 (15 children)
Camps run from July 4 to August 11, Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm, except on holidays, and all programs and activities are designed specifically for each age group. Each camp week is themed to make your child’s camp experience more enjoyable and educational!
Week 1 & 2 (July 4-14) — Caribana Kids Club
Fee: $360/child, which includes a Tropicana T-shirt, costume kit, and mini carnival costume showcase on the last day
Note: This 9-day specialty camp includes dinner as part of the carnival (the only meal included with this camp) and there is no day trip for this camp.
Week 3 (July 17-21) — Under the Sea
Fee: $200/child, which includes a Tropicana T-shirt and a day trip to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada
Week 4 (July 24-28) — Trip to Outer Space
Fee: $200/child, which includes a Tropicana T-shirt and a day trip to the Ontario Science Centre
Week 5 (July 31-August 4) — Olympic Games
Fee: $200/child, which includes a Tropicana T-shirt and a day at the Pan Am Centre
Week 6 (August 8–11) — Jungle Safari
Fee: $160/child. The fee includes a Tropicana T-shirt and a day trip to Toronto Zoo and Gorilla Climb Rope Course.
Note: This camp week runs for 4 days only.
Camp Details
- Drop-off: 8:30am and pickup: 4:00-4:30pm
- Children are required to bring their lunch, snacks, and water bottle each day, including trip days.
- After-Camp Care is available from 4:30pm-6:00pm
- Fees: Week 1&2 (July 4-14, 9-day camp): $90/child
- Weeks 3-5 (July 17-21, July 24–28, July 31-Aug 4): $50/child per week
- Week 6 (Aug 8–11, 4-day camp): $40/child
- There is no before-camp care offered
Discount Offer
Get a $100 discount off your total fees when you book one child for all six weeks and pay in full. All additional children will be charged at the full rate.
Available Subsidy
One-time subsidy of $100 on total fees for the full six weeks per eligible family (not per week or per child).
