Evergreen Brick Works offers families the opportunity to take part in their nature-themed summer day camp, while still appreciating city life! Thanks to their unique location, as a former brick factory hidden among Toronto’s picturesque ravines, kids from across the GTA can enjoy a beautiful summer in the heart of the Lower Don Valley.
Here, campers between the ages of 6 and 17 are encouraged to nurture their curiosity and imagination while spending time outdoors. Evergreen’s wonderful camp team fosters a positive environment so kids can play and explore, make new friends, and connect with nature. In addition, the experienced staff ensures that every camper feels welcome and engaged in the activities.
In these camps, kids take part in traditional camp activities, such as observing water critters in ponds, wandering through forests, gathering around a fire to sing songs and share stories, building forts using loose parts, and whittling roasting sticks from freshly harvested willow. However, unlike a sleepover camp in cottage country, the best part is that they don’t need to leave the city at all. In fact, these memories can be made inside Canada’s largest metropolitan area!
Give Your Kids An Unforgettable Summer in the Wilds of Toronto at Evergreen Brick Works!
Evergreen Brick Works is Canada’s first large-scale community environmental centre and a national non-profit that is also home to an amazing array of wildlife and plants! By developing wilderness skills, reconnecting with the outdoors and nurturing new friendships, campers also learn how nature moves through the city.
These summer camp programs provide children and youth with the opportunity to connect with nature and develop their confidence. Meanwhile, they participate in outdoor play while building a safe and inclusive space for everyone. Evergreen’s day camps inspire discovery and connection, where campers venture through Toronto’s Lower Don Valley ravine trail network, both on foot and on bikes.
Adventure Camp (Ages 6-14)
The Adventure Camp includes both one-week and two-week programs for kids aged 6-11 (Junior Explorers: Ages 6-7, Intermediate Explorers: Ages 8-9, and Senior Explorers: Ages 10-11), plus a two-week (Rangers) program for youth aged 12-14.
This program is sure to inspire our city’s next generation of environmental caretakers, leaders and explorers! At this exciting Adventure Camp, kids learn about the natural surroundings of the Brick Works area, including the plants along the walking paths, the birds gliding overhead and the critters crawling underfoot, the beavers building dams, and so much more.
Bike Ventures Camp (Ages 8-14)
Does your child want to find new adventures by pedalling down the Lower Don Valley trails? The Bike Ventures Camp is a one-week program that connects campers in two age groups (Hawks: Ages 8-11, and Falcons: Ages 12-14) and combines a mountain biking experience with big-city trails. Campers get to explore the trails every day, on both half- and full-day rides. Note: Participants of this program require good bike handling skills, since they will indeed be biking all day!
Rangers Program and Outdoor Leadership Course (Ages 12-17)
For more experienced campers, Evergreen Brick Works hosts the Rangers Program for youth aged 12-14 and an Outdoor Leadership Course for teens aged 14-17.
The Rangers Program offers campers a way to make connections with each other and their surrounding environment. It is ideal for those who wish to expand their outdoor knowledge, develop leadership skills and take the next step in their camp journey at Evergreen Brick Works. Activities include building fires, foraging for edible plants, crafting with natural materials, and participating in full-day bike excursions along the Lower Don Valley trail network.
The Outdoor Leadership Course (OLC) mentors the more seasoned outdoor educators so they can gain experience and practice new skills, while participating in learning seminars and earning resume-building certifications. The participants also gain insight into further educational and career opportunities in the outdoor and recreational field.
