Honouring the start of Indigenous History Month, Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas Square) and The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund host the Kamamooshkaming Sagiiwehwining Indigenous Music and Arts Festival, a free two-day event featuring live performances, workshops, an artisan market, and historical and cultural presentations with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and creators. Kamamooshkaming (kah-ma-moosh-ka-ming) Saiiwehwining (sah-gee-way-winning) means “coming together in a good way”, and this festival brings together artists, musicians, students and educators to collaborate, celebrate, and build community, just as Indigenous people and communities have done since time immemorial.
