Summer is the perfect time for new experiences and deeper challenges in activities our kids love, like horseback riding from beginner to advanced with Whitchurch Equestrian. Whitchurch Equestrian is located just east of Newmarket and is the longest-established riding school and camp in the GTA. For over 40 years, they have provided a safe, inclusive experience for riders of every level and age. They focus on English riding for recreation or showing and specialize in disciplines from jumping to dressage. They operate all year long and in the summer they offer high-quality summer camps for kids and youth.

Summer Camps

Summer camps at Whitchurch Equestrian are designed for kids ages 9 to 16 years, whether they are beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Campers will receive two riding lessons every day. A day at camp also includes learning about equine care and enjoying swimming in their in-ground pool, games, and arts and crafts.

Beginner riders start with the basic skills of English riding, with a focus on safety. Campers also learn grooming, tacking, feeding, and horse care. Intermediate and advanced riders are challenged with advanced equestrian disciplines that include dressage, jumping, mounted games, and musical rides. They also learn more about nutrition, show grooming, and basic first aid for horses.

What to Know

Whitchurch Equestrian summer camps run through the entire summer with nine weekly sessions. Be sure to pack a lunch and snacks (nut-free) and plenty of fluids. Campers will need to bring a face mask, a hat, sunscreen, a swimsuit, and long pants for riding. An approved ASTM/SEI helmet is mandatory and can be rented. Boots with a heel and a smooth sole are also required for riding — rain boots work well. Parents will be happy to know that all riding instructors are certified in First Aid and CPR and the horses are fully schooled to ensure safety.
