The world’s largest and most popular display of LEGO art is coming to TELUS World of Science – Edmonton. The Art of the Brick will open May 5, 2023 and feature over one million colourful LEGO bricks transformed into one-of-a-kind sculptures!
Through a fun and familiar medium, The Art of the Brick seeks to inspire the child in all of us. Using standard LEGO® bricks, award-winning artist Nathan Sawaya brings us over 100 different whimsical and awe-inspiring works of art in this contemporary exhibit. Visitors will get to experience original pieces like “Yellow,” a fan-favourite sculpture of a man pulling his chest apart to reveal thousands of LEGO bricks flowing from the cavity, or “Circle, Triangle, Square” that depicts life-sized human bodies with heads in each of the three shapes, built of the three primary colours.
Other highlights of the Art of the Brick include an impressive 20-foot Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, and re-creations of famous art masterpieces like Michelangelo’s David, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Beyond the bricks, visitors will also be able to view the humble toy in a whole new light through a display of innovative multimedia photography created by award-winning photographer Dean West.
The exhibit will be topped off by several hands-on and interactive science experiences. Explore the power of creativity with:
- LEGO Drag Race where you can build & test your own LEGO car creation on different inclines
- Six Bricks challenge to see how many different objects can you build with only six LEGO DUPLO bricks
- Hidden Hands mystery object building guided purely by your sense of touch from inside a covered box
- Free Play where your imagination & creativity can run wild building your own masterpiece from bins of loose LEGO bricks
- Plus, much more!
