Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) has announced a new strand of activities to address families’ need for play and creativity at home. Using their pool of local artists, CTYP have created ‘Storytime Saturday’ and ‘Randi Makes…!’ to engage young people during this time of physical distancing.
Each Saturday, one of Carousel Theatre for Young People’s performers will choose their favourite story and read it for CTYP audiences. Following the storytime, an accompanying craft activity will be posted on the CTYP website. Artists taking part in ‘Storytime Saturday’ include Kelli Ogmundson and Merewyn Comeau – both featured in Jessie Award Winning CTYP production Elephant & Piggie’s We are in a Play as well as Rabecca Talbot, Advah Soudack, Laura Jaye, Sereana Malani and Amanda Testini, with more artists yet to be announced.
Randi Edmundson, CTYP’s Artistic Associate, has created a series of creative learning videos released every Wednesday at 11:00am. Explore ideas through crafts, theatre, science, cooking, creative writing, art history, and more with Jessie Award winning puppeteer Randi in short videos geared towards elementary school aged children. Videos range in length and will have young people engaged in hands-on activities.
CTYP Artistic Director Carole Higgins said “We are happy to be able to continue to connect creatively with and engage young people during this time, and to give parents a little break too. Young people are so wonderfully expressive, and we hope our activities inspire viewers to continue to create, play and find joy in the coming days and weeks. It is so important to all of us at CTYP to continue to support our theatre artists by providing them with opportunities to continue to perform and to earn some funds during this unusual time.”
