June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, so be sure to check out some of the events happening to celebrate culture and communities.
Here are our top picks for family-friendly events for the weekend of June 20-22, 2025
1. National Indigenous Peoples Day | Surrey
This event is an opportunity to acknowledge and show respect and admiration for Indigenous Peoples past, present and future; to share cultural history; and to share spirit, experiences, stories, song, art and dance with each other and the community. The in-person event will include cultural sharing from the local First Nations with teachings and practice through art, music, storytelling and dance.
2. National Indigenous Peoples Day| West Vancouver
Recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day by participating in activities that shine a light on languages, cultures, traditions and the contributions of the Inuit, Metis, and First Nations peoples.
3. Dragon Boat Festival| Vancouver
A spirited summer tradition Creekside Community Centre, Creekside Olympic Village and the waters of False Creek will come alive with the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival. Created as a showcase of Vancouver’s growing cultural diversity, this first-of-its-kind event has grown to become a grand celebration of Canada’s unique multicultural heritage with exciting programs and professional performances by well- known entertainers.
4. ScotFest | Coquitlam
Come celebrate all that is Scottish. Embrace the bagpipes, watch the kilts fly during the jigs and reels, be awed by the stone putt and caber toss. Wander through the vendor stalls and cheer on the sheepdog competition. The BC Highland Games, now referred to as ScotFest, is a fantastically fun family-friendly event.
5. Art Shuffle | Port Moody
Kick off the summer with an art walk through Port Moody featuring local artists, poets and musicians.. Experience interactive art, hands-on activities, live music and poetry, plus a new indoor artist market in Kyle Centre and an open-air market at Queen Street Plaza.
6. Vancouver International Jazz Festival | Vancouver
The 40th Vancouver International Jazz Festival kicks off summer in the city with over 140 free and ticketed performances of diverse programming over 10 days. Opening weekend includes free Downtown Jazz outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Festival culminates on Canada Day weekend with shows across Granville Island.
7. North Shore Teddy Bear Picnic | North Vancouver
St. Andrew’s invites you to our 17th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic! Come enjoy the festivities that have delighted North Shore families for years. Activities include the popular adopt-a-bear tent, Doctor Bear for those teddies that need a little fixing up, Looking Glass Face Painters, cookie decorating, entertainment from clowns Dilly & Donna and Music with Marnie, and more!
8. Airport Day| Pitt Meadows
Come and check out (for FREE) airplanes and helicopters of all shapes and sizes. Visit the ground displays and have fun climbing aboard some aircrafts. Browse the marketplace and the information booths, and have a fun day with the whole family. Both admission and parking are FREE; however, be sure to bring some cash if you want to purchase from the on-site vendors.
9. Greek Day | Vancouver
A five-block stretch on West Broadway, from Macdonald to Blenheim, measuring almost one kilometre, is closed off to traffic to make room for a world of delicious Greek food and drink, market vendors, entertainment and live music offering a laid-back, yet lively Greek atmosphere. This award-winning festival presents valued community partners the opportunity to exhibit products, promote travel experiences, or showcase their brand to a massive captive consumer audience.
10. Douglas Park Community Day | Langley
Come prepared for any weather and lots of FREE family fun at the Douglas Park Community Day. Enjoy live stage performances, class demonstrations, inflatables, games, family-fun activities, community booths, and more!
