Imagine visiting a museum where you don’t have to constantly say “don’t touch” or “please just look” or “good grief, get down from there”. Welcome to the new Kids’ Gallery at the Surrey Museum. Tucked in the back corner of the Museum, the new 900 sqft space is dedicated entirely to how kids learn – through physical exploration. The exhibit, which opens October 10th, focusses on sustainable energy: understanding it, creating it, and reusing it.

I took my 4 year old to visit the Kids’ Gallery and he was a busy bee flying from one activity to the next. Without a doubt his favourite station was the bike. He hopped up on a seat (which was borderline too tall for him) and turned into a pedalling maniac. Museum + exercise = unique and fantastic experience!

Stations at the Kids' Gallery at the Surrey MuseumIn the coming weeks the Surrey Museum will add the final touches to their Kids’ Gallery. From what we saw there is much to entertain the little ones already. From a tree house to explore (books downstairs; costumes upstairs), to a playhouse and numerous hands-on stations the kids will be eager to return again and again to the Surrey Museum’s new Kids’ Gallery.

Over the next 12 months, the gallery will shift its theme from sustainable energy to water and finally agriculture. Each theme will have interactive elements for the kids to enhance their learning experience.
