Hands-On Fun
Hands down, the best part of the Science Centre is all the opportunities for hands-on learning! There are several amazing galleries to explore, with inviting interactive exhibits around each corner. Some of our family favourites include:
- Building and testing wind turbines in The Science Garage
- Launching rockets in the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery
- Racing an Inuit dogsled through the snow-covered tundra in Arctic Journey
- Using microscopes to discover unique nature specimens in The Nature Exchange
CuriousCITY
If you have little ones 6 and under, the CuriousCITY indoor playground will likely be the highlight of your visit. This vibrant play space features a main climbing structure made up of connected tree-houses themed as iconic Edmonton buildings and landmarks! They will love exploring the model airport and pretending to work at the airport, climbing through the sedimentary layers of the river valley, building with the large foam blocks, and splashing around in the water play area.
Live Science Demonstrations
From captivating Science Challenges and explosive Thermal Theatrics to tasty Ice Cream Science, there is always something exciting happening on the Syncrude Stage. Check the daily schedule on your visit so you don’t miss out on these fascinating live science demonstrations from the friendly experts in the purple lab coats.
JUMPOLOGY Zone
April 26 – May 19 | For a limited time, the Feature Exhibition Hall will become a colourful indoor playground for all to enjoy! JUMPOLOGY Zone will feature a variety of bouncy castles and inflatable obstacle courses including a Superman House and a toddler-friendly Red Fire Truck Bouncy Experience. Come climb, bounce, slide and discover the joys of kinetic energy! *Additional ticket required – plus Science Centre General Admission for non-Members.
Watch a Movie on Alberta’s Largest IMAX Screen
Did you know TELUS World of Science – Edmonton is home to Alberta’s Largest movie screen? You can get up close to space and nature with a selection of larger-then-life IMAX feature films, or enjoy a Hollywood favourite on the big screen! Here are the films and movie events to look for this Spring:
- Starts March 22 | Call of the Dolphins 3D
- April 18 & 19 | 30th Anniversary IMAX Series – a selection of iconic films from 1995 including Clueless, Empire Records, 12 Monkeys, and Se7en
- Starts April 24 | Blue Angels – a year on the life of Navy’s elite Flight Demonstration Squadron
- April 26 | Paddington in Peru: PJ Party – Come dressed in your comfiest pajamas to watch another heartwarming adventure from your favourite storybook bear
Zeidler Dome Shows
The Zeidler Dome offers another spectacular spot to sit back and watch a show! This world-leading 10K resolution digital visualization theatre offers an unforgettable views of the earth and beyond. Check the daily schedule for the selection of family-friendly daytime shows (until 6 PM) included with Science Centre Admission.
For another unique experience, Evening Laser Shows in the Zeidler Dome are your ticket to a memorable musical experience! Enjoy hits from your favourite artists like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, and more with 360° of spectacular lights and animated lasers.
Extend the Fun on Late Night Friday
Did you know the Science Centre is now open late on the first Friday of each month? On these days, the Science Centre is open 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, offering 12 full hours to explore EVERYTHING the Science Centre has to offer. Make it a fun Friday night out exploring the galleries, enjoying dinner in the Purple Pear restaurant, playing in CuriousCITY, watching a laser show in the Zeidler Dome, and so much more! Learning about science sure works up an appetite! We are big fans of the elevated cafeteria fare offered at the Purple Pear Restaurant.
