Summer Starts at EPL!

Edmonton Public Library is excited to bring back their Summer Starts at EPL program for another exciting summer of reading fun! Kids can take part in 9 weeks of reading challenges, contests, prizes, guest performances, events and more.

It all kicks off on Saturday, June 24 with an Opening Fair event at Edmonton Public Library branches. Drop in anytime throughout the day to learn more about the program and get your child excited about summer reading.

Reading Challenge

EPL is proud to participate in the TD Summer Reading Club – Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids. Whether your kid is into graphic novels, cookbooks, or comics it all counts! For every 6 hours logged they will receive a button to mark their achievement and gain entry into both a weekly book draw and the grand prize draw. This year’s grand prize draw is for one of four fabulous Prize Packs: an Out of this World Prize Pack, Creative Builder Prize Pack, Wild Edmonton Annual Membership, or Zach Hyman Book Prize Pack.

Kids can submit their time on paper through the paper reading log available from their local EPL branch, or online. Each in-person registration will include a package with:

A reading log to track your reading minutes
An activity booklet from the TD Summer Reading Club
A Read and Win bookmark and 2 general admission tickets to K-Days (while supplies last) courtesy of Explore Edmonton
A list of recommended reads
A sticker sheet
An origami bookmark

Find the Mascot

Keep your eyes peeled for The Library Rocks Magazine Cover when visiting your local branch. It will be hidden somewhere different in the library each week and if you find it you can tell a staff member and be entered into the weekly draw for a free book! Each branch will give away one book per week.

Classes & Events

Visit your local branch or check the online schedule to discover all the exciting reading inspired classes & events happening throughout the summer. There is everything from crafts, dance parties, and live lizards to Superhero Academy, cooking classes, battle bots and MORE! The EPL is also excited to be welcome some very special performers throughout the summer like magicians or yoga instructors.
