Winter is in the air but the holiday fun is just warming up. If you love the festive parades, this weekend is for you! The Halifax Parade of Lights will kick off the holidays on Saturday and less than 24 hours later, more holiday fun awaits at the annual Light Up Bedford Parade! If parades aren’t for you, the magical performance of Wonderland will be at the Scotiabank Centre this weekend and will lead off the Holiday Concerts and Shows! Here are 5 Family Friendly Events in Halifax and beyond to check out this weekend:

1. Your Very Happy Holiday Party

Start your weekend at Dartmouth Crossing’s Holiday Party. Santa and his Elves will be joining in the fun and you can too! There will be jolly holiday games, free cake, hot chocolate, coffee, Santa’s Petting Zoo, and rides on the North Pole Express train. Do you have some shopping to do? It’s also tax-free weekend at the Dartmouth Crossing Shops.

2. Halifax Parade of Lights and Red Nose Run

The Halifax Parade of Lights is unofficially Halifax’s kick off to the holidays! Bundle up for the 23rd annual Chronicle Herald Halifax Parade of Lights and 4th Annual Red Nose Run, this Saturday. The Parade begins at 6 pm on Upper Water Street and ends on University Avenue and Robie Street.

3. Cirque Musica Holiday presents ‘Wonderland’

Symphony Nova Scotia joins Cirque Musica Holiday this weekend for two shows of Wonderland, an amazing show of acrobatics, aerials and a full symphony orchestra. Check them out after the Parade of Lights on Saturday or their Sunday matinee.

4. Light Up Bedford Parade

Keep the parades rollin’ this weekend as Bedford hosts its annual Light Up Bedford Parade on Sunday evening. It begins at 5:45 pm, starting at  DeWolfe Park and travelling along the Bedford Highway to the last bridge at Bedford Place Mall. Look out for the famous Parade ‘Hot Spots’ along the parade route offering free drinks, snacks, parking and/or washrooms.

5. Halifax Diwali Carnival – Festival of Lights

The annual Diwali Carnival – a ‘Festival of Lights is happening this all weekend at the Forum.  Join in Halifax’s celebration with cultural vendors, bouncy castles, carnival games, performances and a fireworks show on Saturday evening at 8:30 pm.
