What is APEGA?
Since 1920, APEGA has served as the self-regulating body for the engineering and geoscience professions in Alberta, setting rigorous standards for education, training, and ethics. In addition to regulation, APEGA is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders through engaging youth programs and outreach initiatives.
APEGA offers engaging, hands-on STEM opportunities for students from kindergarten through grade 12, helping them explore science, technology, engineering, and math in meaningful ways. Two standout events that bring science to life are the Rock & Fossil Clinic and the APEGA Science Olympics. These interactive programs align with Alberta Education’s learning outcomes and are designed to spark curiosity while inspiring kids to explore the world around them in fun and memorable ways.

Have a budding geologist at home? The APEGA Rock & Fossil Clinic is a family-friendly event where curious kids and their families can examine rocks, fossils, and minerals up close. Learn from professional geoscientists and geology experts as you unearth the history beneath our feet, identify mystery specimens, and discover the role geoscience plays in everyday life. It’s the perfect event for rock lovers and science enthusiasts of all ages!
🏆 Engineer Some Fun at the APEGA Science Olympics
The APEGA Science Olympics are action-packed inter-school competitions that give students a chance to test their knowledge and creativity. Working in teams, kids solve real-world engineering and geoscience challenges with support and mentorship from professional engineers and geoscientists. These events are designed to encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation… all while having a blast!
