Learning at the Bissell’s Early Childhood Development Centre is led by a kind and dedicated team of Early Childhood Educators and guided by the Play, Participation, and Possibilities – An Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework for Alberta. Programming is focused around a “learning through play” model that includes plenty of time for outdoor play in the centre’s three outdoor play areas, plus the opportunity for fieldtrips in the summer months. Kids are encouraged to be kids while developing creative, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical literacy skills. Early learning concepts such as counting, ABC’s and math will be introduced informally through a variety of hands on activities and games, with a key focus on building social relationships and having fun!
Design features inside the Centre have been carefully chosen with neutral, calming colors and natural materials. Each room is tailored to the age group it serves, with developmentally appropriate toys and properly scaled equipment to keep them safe and comfortable. Bissell aims to provide a welcoming and home-like environment where young learners can grow strong, healthy and confident. It also strives to serve the entire family through keeping parents fully informed of their child’s learning, and providing a safe space for meetings with educators or other resource workers.
