Ballet: it is practically a synonym for grace and beauty; evocative of poise and athleticism. With School of Alberta Ballet classes, your child can be a part of the magic! If you are so inclined, there are adult classes offered too…what’s stopping you?No ballet experience is required to register in either class.

2016 is an exciting year for the School of Alberta Ballet! The Ruth Carse Centre for Dance will be welcoming parents and students in September as the new home for the Edmonton division. Located at 11205 107 Ave, the space offers dedicated and purpose built classrooms, full change rooms, a comfortable lounge in the front lobby, access to school admissions staff and a joy for the dreaded drop off: free parking.

Classes run from September to June, and registration is now open.

Preschool Classes

The most adorable ballerinas have to be the rosy-cheeked 3 year old cherubs in their tutus! The cuteness belies the fact that preschoolers are more than ready to learn the basics of ballet, to practice posture, form and musicality–a pianist accompanies each class.   Of course not every ballet dancer wears a tutu! Where would the pas de deux be if there was only un? The School offers a Boys Only Preschool class at the outrageously good value of only $203 for the year’s worth of weekly classes. No ballet experience is required to register in either class.

Intensive Training Program

Once the love of ballet has taken hold, the School of Alberta Ballet is there to help dancers take it to the next level. The Intensive Training Program is for students who have decided to commit to dance in a serious way.  Starting for dancers aged 6, the intensive training program is a concentrated, focused program that includes preparation for the Cecchetti exams. Students in this program are offered the opportunity to audition for Alberta Ballet productions. The intention of the program is readying each student for entrance to the Professional Division, or other elite level training.

Adult Classes

Two levels of adult classes are available at the new Ruth Carse Centre location (not far from the Ice District and handy for after work classes!) Very gratifying to the women like me who possibly have a stifled ballerina inside: Adult Beginner classes! These classes are for people over 18 who have little to no ballet experience, but want to give it a go. The classes will cover very basic lessons like positions and postures.  The second class is for adults who have had at least 1-2 years of previous dance experience, with a good knowledge of basic dance technique and vocabulary. These classes are a rare chance for adults to enroll at a top tier ballet school without an audition!

The School of Alberta Ballet is now accepting registrations for the 2016-17 Season. To register, or for more information, please visit the School of Alberta Ballet website.
