This year, Earth Hour is happening Saturday, March 27 at 8:30 pm. It seems like an insignificant act, turning off your lights for one hour; but its significance lies in what it symbolizes – showing solidarity and support for taking action on climate change. And while we may often feel alone in our concerns, our annual survey shows that many Edmontonians are concerned about this issue and also want to take action.

Here are a few ideas you can do during Earth Hour with your family:

  • Have an indoor scavenger hunt – Hide candies around the house, turn off the lights and have the other household members search for them using only a flashlight.
  • Play boardgames by candlelight.
  • Pick up some different flavours of a favourite snack from a local shop and eat them in the dark, trying to guess the flavour.
  • Check out what’s happening around the world for Earth Hour online.
