There is a street in the neighborhood of Summerside that has established itself as THE premier spot for Halloween fun and trick-or-treating in Edmonton. The residents on Grande Boulevard go all out with Halloween decorations and the street can easily see over a thousand costumed ghosts and goblins on Halloween night. That’s a lot of candy to give out!
Visitors come from all over the city to experience the decorations and electric atmosphere of Grand Boulevard on Halloween night. Each year more decorations and lights are added, and it just keeps getting better and better! Even covid couldn’t put a damper on the fun, with many houses coming up with contact free candy distribution systems in 2020 to keep things fun and safe.
For those who don’t like heavy crowds, the best way to enjoy it is on one of the nights leading up to Halloween. Most homes seem to have their decorations up a good week or two before the big night so it is easy to take a stroll or drive up and down Grande Boulevard to admire all the spooky decorations. This is definitely our favourite way to experience it.
I recommend walking as there are so many great details that can be missed as you are driving by. We live in the area so we usually pick a weeknight with good weather and bring the dogs along for a walk right after dinner. As the sun sets and it grows dark, the lights and spooky effect just get that much better.
I am always in awe of creativity and effort put in by these homeowners. The number of homes that participate and go all out with their decorations is seriously impressive! With so many decorated homes all in one spot, it is worth the drive from other areas in the city to come check it out.
You can’t help but get in the Halloween spirit as you take in all the sights and sounds down the street. It is a great excuse to get out and enjoy some fresh air, and best of all it is a free activity the whole family can enjoy!
