I Heart YEG Spring

We heard a rumor that spring is on the way, and the folks at the Alfred H. Savage Centre seem to have heard it too! So they are inviting everyone down to explore some of the fun spring River Valley programs and activities there are to do in our city. Try bannock making, nature walks, outdoor skills, geocaching and much, much more! The best part? It’s all free!

Dark Sky Campfires at Elk Island National Park

Discover the park in the dark! Elk Island National Park is part of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve, making it the perfect place to gaze up in wonder at the stars. A Parks Canada interpreter will help you search for stars or the awe-inspiring Northern Lights around a campfire. There will be storytelling and a hot drink to enjoy, and of course, the mystery of the prairie landscape at dusk.

Leaf To It!

The John Janzen Nature Centre is the perfect spot to experience autumn in Edmonton! There will be no leaf unturned as little ones aged 1-4 (and their adult) discover the beauty of leaves in the fall. This active and interactive program will include a story about a leaf, leaf roll-play, creating a leaf masterpiece, and even meeting a new friend that hibernates under leaves all winter! All children attending must register and be accompanied by an adult.

Explore the Season For Homeschoolers

Here’s the perfect science field-trip for homeschoolers aged 5-8! Students will become nature detectives as they explore the Nature Centre’s trails to discover the secrets of seasonal changes. They’ll search for insects or maybe hunt for animal tracks in the snow, but for sure they will engage in active learning fun! Adult attendance for this program is optional, max. 1 adult per registered child.

Halloween Howl Family Fun Night

What will you dress up as for the FREE Halloween Howl Family Fun Night? Take part in a haunted nature walk, play some ghostly games, and find out why all the animals that you might be scared of, are really amazing! Please bring a chair and a reusable mug for some “hair-raising” hot chocolate. This event is designed for a family audience (ages 2 and up.)

Kids Can Catch!

If you have wanted to take your kids fishing, the FREE fishing weekend is the time to do it! No fishing licences are required over this weekend so you can fish freely, anywhere where fishing is allowed! You are welcome to go out and go it alone, but if you want a little guidance, head to Wabumum Lake! They are hosting an ice fishing event, complete with loaner fishing rods, pre-drilled holes, expert help from Cabela’s, and hot chocolate to help keep you toasty! Pre-register to guarantee your spot!
