Revolutionary preschool educator Dr. Maria Montessori offered a plethora of wisdom on how, why and when children learn best. She deduced that “education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.” Today, Montessori schools aim to create ideal educational environments and optimal learning experiences for preschoolers. Rising Scholars Montessori Preschool is a shining example of how this individualized approach to early learning helps children flourish.
Located in the Ellerslie neighbourhood in South Edmonton, Rising Scholars Montessori is a mixed-age preschool program for children aged 3 to 6. A typical day includes plenty of time for students to choose and work with Montessori materials, including sensory materials, practical life objects, and teaching tools designed to foster learning in the areas of language, math, science and culture. The curriculum also includes french, arts and crafts, music, yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices. Children are encouraged to pursue subjects in which they are interested, and work alone or in group settings.
Rising Scholars Montessori is praised by parents for the warm, welcoming learning environment; the caring, well-educated teaching staff; the focus on child-led learning; and the extras offered by the school. Regular field trips to some of Edmonton’s top children’s destinations are included each year. Winter and Spring concerts are held and progress reports are distributed twice per year. Cultural celebrations are recognized throughout the year and, weather permitting, outdoor time is included regularly.
Registration is now open for the 2019/2020 school year. Choose from morning classes (8:50 am to 11:30 am), afternoon classes (12:20 pm to 3 pm) or full-day classes (8:50 am to 3 pm).
