If you are like me, you fall into the trap of wanting to take your kids to do and try EVERY exciting thing you see on social media. From fun activities to delicious new treats, there is always something new to discover in Edmonton & Area, and just not enough time to fit it all in!

This summer I am excited to share some Trips & Treat pairings that will incorporate fun local activities with tasty treats that are located nearby.  With a little planning, you can hopefully to make some fun new discoveries, maximize family time spent together, and waste less gas travelling around the city.

For our first Trips & Treats we paired a visit to Good Ol Lawn Fun with a visit to Be-A-Bella Candy & Gifts for some delicious soft serve ice cream!

Trip: Good Ol’ Lawn Fun (G.O.L.F.) in Lowlands

Our family loves minigolf so when I saw there was a pop-up course opening at the Lowlands Project Space I knew we had to check it out! My husband was apprehensive as the GPS led him down a quiet neighbourhood street in Northeast Edmonton, and I will admit I was a bit confused too as we walked up to an unsuspecting looking house. Luckily I recognized the 9th hole with the neon striped mannequin in the front yard and knew we were in the right place as we were warmly welcomed into the backyard by the curator, Ryland Fortie.

Each of the 12 holes in the Good Ol’ Lawn Fun (G.O.L.F.) exhibit has been lovingly created by a different artist and incorporates fun and challenging aspects you won’t find on a traditional minigolf course. We loved that some of the holes had their own creative take on the putter you used to hit the ball, or incorporated other interactive features like a fish fortune teller. There’s so much creativity in each hole and we were delighted each time we discovered what was waiting for us at the next hole!

Good Ol’ Lawn Fun runs at Lowlands Project Space Thursday through Sunday until June 26, 2022. Visit our event post here for full hours and details on the project.

Treat: Be-A-Bella Candy & Gifts

After our round of minigolf in the hot sun, it was time for a treat! I discovered Be-a-Bella when compiling our Top Ice Cream Spots in Edmonton & Area and when I saw it was just around the corner from Lowlands Project Space, I knew it was the perfect excuse to give one of their creative soft serve sundaes a try. Actually, I was a bit torn realizing Kind Ice Cream also happened to be right across the street, but I guess it just gives us reason to plan another visit back to this quaint neighbourhood! Either way I don’t think you can go wrong.

Be-A-Bella Candy & Gifts

Be-A-Bella is a fun little candy shop filled with sweet treats and gifts, and is named after the owner’s former basset hound Bella. As a basset mama myself, this absolutely warms my heart and makes me love this local shop all that much more. We ordered our ice cream in store and then waited at the small exterior window outside for our creations. My son tried for the gummy worm laden “The Yummy Gummy”, I tried the “Highland’s 99”, and my daughter opted for an old fashioned grape float. All were delicious and excitedly enjoyed in the lovely grassy area right next to the store.
