My family was Winterrupted at Winterruption! In January, we joined the family fun at Winterruption Outdoor.  This event has been growing bigger and better since 2016 and this year had two days with a focus on children’s programming, winter activities and Indigenous programming at W.E. Graham Park and Cosmo Hall. I’m embarrassed to admit it but this was the first year we were able to attend. Now that we have, it will be added to our yearly fun! It was truly a great experience for all of us. We wandered around the site and got to try out all the activities and it was a great chance to enjoy our winter months.

Winterruption 2024

They had so many fun activities for the kids, including some that we had never tried before. The day was filled with excited kids, happy adults and really lovely weather.

Underworld LARP Saskatoon

This was the first thing we saw as we walked onto the grounds. My son was over the moon to jump in and learn how to sword fight. We weren’t sure if we’d get him out to try anything else. All the kids had so much fun jumping into an all-new world and hanging out with some characters that made them laugh and learn. They had a section for the kids to go and play (parents could play as well but I chose to watch my son work off his energy from outside the play area.

Children’s Festival – Puppet Making

Next up was the Children’s Festival booth for some puppet making. They had puppets ready to be designed and my favourite thing about this booth was once the puppets were made and played with, we could leave them there for the next person to design. My son made sure to entertain us with a musical with the puppet he made.

Hot Chocolate on the move.

The mobile hot chocolate was a hit with everyone. We were excited to warm up after a game of ice and snow mini-golf (super cool idea!) We checked out the snowmen that were made and they were filling up with clothing donations. We stopped by Meewasin’s booth to learn about animal prints. We sat by the fire and listened to a great story. There were also options indoors at the Cosmo Centre.  There was a Sum Theatre show on the ice, options to snowshoe and an opportunity to work on some snow sculptures.

Maple Syrup Candy

We were so excited to have some maple syrup snow candy to try out. It was delicious and my son LOVED trying it out.

Sleigh Rides

Our last stop of the day was a sleigh ride. There was a long line of excited families ready to ride around the neighbourhood. I’ve tried to highlight our stops but there was so much going on. We did so much and had such a great day. We are already saving the date for our visit next year.
