Young Naturalists programs are nature-based activities for kids aged 5 to 11 years and their families to participate in throughout the year. At least one parent or guardian must accompany your child on all Young Naturalists activities.
Sandhill Crane Field Trip | FREE
Date: October 3, 2026
Venue: south of Saskatoon
Join a field trip to look for migrating Sandhill Cranes and other wildlife. Binoculars and a spotting scope will be available to demonstrate how these tools work to watch wildlife. Parent Advisory: Kids will be walking along the shoreline of the South Saskatchewan River. Space is limited, so email to register. One parent/guardian must accompany your child.
Northern Saw-Whet Owl Field Trip
Date: Limited Dates in October. Once registered, you will be given the dates as they are chosen.
Venue: You’ll be given the location upon registration.
Join naturalists Martin Stoffel and Bruce Boldt to collect scientific information from migrating Saw-whet Owls.
The banding station is very small, so our group size is limited on this field trip. This is will be later than the usual, so it might not be the best for younger kids. Space is limited, so email to register. One parent/guardian must accompany your child.
Bird Feeder Workshop | $5 a child
Date: November 14, 2026 | 1 PM
Venue: Affinity Learning Centre, Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo
Learn about how a bird feeder can be used for winter bird watching. Bring a hammer and build your own bird feeder to take home. Space is limited, so email to register. One parent/guardian must accompany your child.
