It’s time to kick your summer into high gear with exciting STEM-focused camps with GearBots! This summer, GearBots has teamed up with Abbotsford International Airshow to deliver camps that will take learning to new heights, with feature camps including: Introduction to Aerospace, Coding a Drone camps, and a special Girls in STEM option.
GearBots is a leader in STEM education, operating in several high school and middle schools throughout the Fraser Valley. Their robotics, coding, and technology-focused programs for ages 9 – 15 are in high demand due to the high quality education and experience students gain through hands-on learning and future-focused programming. Founded in 2008, GearBots Makerspace founder/owner Dereck Dirom is passionate about fostering curiosity and excellence in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and his impactful work earned him the distinguished Mitchell Odyssey Foundation Grant.
Summer camps with GearBots are ideal for children with an interest in science and technology who want to expand and challenge their problem-solving skills in an enriching environment. For 2025, GearBots summer camps take place at the Airshow Compound to allow for direct access to interactive learning with the aircraft and equipment on site. Each camp is a week in length and runs for a half day (9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm, depending on the week). Choose from the exciting camp options:
Girls in STEM | July 7-11 | 9am-12pm
Meet and connect with like-minded individuals as you gain confidence with technical skills in digital design, 3D printing, coding, and laser cutting. Through a series of team challenges, participants will tackle engineering tasks that build problem-solving skills.
Introductions to Coding/Robotics | July 14-18 | 9am-12pm
Join the fun as you learn how to program a robot to complete a number of tasks. This camp is perfect for beginners interested in learning coding and take the first steps in learning the principles of robotics.
Introduction to Coding a Drone | July 14-18 | 1pm-4pm
Drones are so cool right now, and in this STEM camp, students will lear how drones fly and how to program their drones using a simulator. Once the basics are covered, campers will be introduced to the coding languages of JavaScript and Python to take their learning to the next level.
Digital Design in Aerospace | July 21 -25 | 9am-12pm
Ever wondered how specific shapes and designs in Aerospace come to be? In this camp, students will learn digital design skills using programs such as TinkerCAD, OnShape and InkScape to design unique prototypes. Throughout the week, students will learn all about 3D design, 3D printing, and laser cutting, and have the opportunity to bring their laser-cut creations home!
Building/Coding a Hoverbit | July 21 – 25 | 1pm-4pm
If you’ve taken a GearBots Camp before, this will be the perfect next challenge in your learning! Campers will use a 3D printer and laser cutter to create parts to construct their very own mechanical device!
Introduction to Aerospace | July 28 – August 1 | 9am-12pm
Have you ever wondered how airplanes fly? If so, this is the camp for you! Campers will learn the science behind flying, the physics of flight, and how to create their own flying objects. Through hands-on experiments and exploration, campers will see how the principles of flight have changed over the years, and participate in unique challenges to guide their learning.
Introduction to Coding/Robotics | July 28 – August 1 | 1pm-4pm
Join the fun as you learn how to program a robot to complete a number of tasks. This camp is perfect for beginners interested in learning coding and take the first steps in learning the principles of robotics.
Camp registration is now open and spaces fill up fast. If your child is interested in STEM and between the ages of 9-15 years old, this is the perfect camp to launch their curiosity and enthusiasm for aerospace engineering! Register here.
