1. Festivals Galore
It’s the end of June in Festival City and we are well and truly in the midst of festival season! This weekend you have your choice of getting out to The Works Festival of Art and Design, Edmonton International Jazz Festival, performances of The Cunning Little Vixen and Carousel at the Opera NUOVA festival, and the Freewill Shakespeare Festival (don’t miss the pre-performance puppet show!) daily
2. Aboriginal Day Celebrations
National Aboriginal Day was officially on June 21st, but the celebrations run all through the weekend. On Friday, head out to Stony Plain for a day of cultural performances and hands on learning at Aboriginal Day 2017. On Saturday and Sunday Fort Edmonton Park is hosting Miywatamowin Weekend with stories of historical First Nations and Metis people. And on Sunday Lion’s Park in St. Albert will be honouring and celebrating the indigenous cultures of Canada at the National Aboriginal Day Festival.
3. Music Please!
If you like live music, especially for free, you are going to need to buckle up for this weekend! On Saturday, get to the Alberta Legislature grounds from noon to 3 pm for a musical tribute for St Jean Baptiste Day, part of the Countdown Canada 150 festivities. On Sunday you can head back to the Leg for the day for ESO Symphony in the City or to Churchill Square for Jazz on the Square, a free family friendly event that’s part of the Jazz Fest. 4. Ukrainian and Vintage, just like my dad!
Saturday evening is a great opportunity to pick up the perfect little Ukrainian something at the ACUA Vintage Market, and all day Sunday is Vintage Day at the Ukrainian Heritage Cultural Village, with lots of classic cars and more to check out! Saturday and Sunday
5. I need Ice Cream
What if there was a way to satisfy your yearnings for ice cream treats and help children’s charities? I have good news, there is! Get to a participating Sobey’s, Safeway or IGA for Canada Screams for Ice Cream, where you can score something delicious for a $2 donation. Saturday

Northlands Park isn’t always top of the mind when you think of family fun, but on Sunday, it should be! It’s Family Day at the Races featuring activities for kids and the ever popular and adorable Weiner Dog Race! Sunday
