Get artistic this summer with a wide range of fun and affordable Summer Arts Camps offered by Strathcona County. Whether it be visual or performing arts, there’s something to appeal to almost every interest. Your child can embrace their inner dancer, actor or artist through Seuss Circus, Young Author and Artist Camp, Cartoonist Camp, and so much more. These camps are all happening throughout July and August at some very unique and inspiring venues right in Sherwood Park!
The performing arts take center stage at Festival Place! Choose from dance, musical theatre, or a combination of both with the Show Time! and Camp MTM (Teen Musical Theatre) camps. For those with a main passion for dance, Just Dance or Dance Expression Impression will focus largely on learning new moves and having fun. Behind the scenes, teens might enjoy learning about stage production during Technical Theatre Camp or creating Film for Social Media & Commercials. Learn it all in this state-of-the-art performance venue and theatre located in the beautiful Broadmoor Lake Park.
For young visual artists, why not try expressing yourself through clay, paint, glass or fabric? Ranked as one of the best pottery studios in the province, The Clay Hut at historic Smeltzer House has all the tools and materials to create brilliant ceramic works and beyond. Strathcona County’s iconic pottery program offers tactile artistic exploration through youth friendly summer camp options like Clay Artist, Creative GLASS or SEW Creative.
For the full gambit of visual arts, there’s no better spot to be than Gallery @ 501! This hub for contemporary arts and crafts is conveniently located in the Community Centre and offers painting, printmaking and sculpture. Youth can explore a variety of artistic mediums with Art Adventurers, or can get closer to nature during Wild Crafts, an art and nature camp split between the Gallery and the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. For a unique look at the gallery, the Behind the Scenes Gallery Camp offers the opportunity to discover the inner workings and curate a mini exhibition!
This is just the tip of the iceberg for all the great summer camps being offered in Sherwood Park and Ardrossan! There are so many great reasons to choose Strathcona County Summer Arts Camps. They are affordable and convenient, with most programs offering pre and post-care to ease drop off and pick-up. Introduce your child to something new and exciting, or add to the skills already in their repertoire. Either way, it is a fun way for them to get creative, meet new friends, and build self confidence this summer as they discover their own artistic side!
