Edmonton’s Grindstone Theatre invites kids aged 5 to 17 to take part in Grindstone Theatre School’s Summer Camps! This series of week-long summer camps will give youth the opportunity to learn the key facets of producing and performing in their very own theatrical production. There is something for every skill and interest with half and full-day offerings that include Improv and Physical Comedy, Acting, Film, Magic, Musical Theatre, and Drama Discovery!
Grindstone Theatre Camps are open to students of all experience levels, from beginner to seasoned stars – even adults! Come spend an unforgettable week learning under some of the best in the business, meeting new friends, and taking part in creating an actual theatre production. You’ll be amazed at what can be accomplished in just 5 days with Grindstone!
Depending on the camp, sessions will take place at the Grindstone Theatre Studio (9562 82 Avenue), The Grindstone Comedy Theatre & Bistro (10019 81 Avenue), or Ritchie Community League (7727 98 Street Northwest). Whether your youngster has a flair for the dramatic or enjoys being the class clown, this is the camp for them! This introductory camp will introduce them to a variety of theatrical styles to help them find their inner voice, learn how to move comfortably in their body, and discover the joys of expressing themselves through performance.
Drama Discovery 3 Camp (Ages 12-15) | July 20 to 24, 2026
Get a double whammy with this camp focused on writing and performing! Campers will spend each morning learning the ins and outs of playwriting, directing, and performance, then they will apply their newfound knowledge as they all work together in the afternoon to create their own original show. No previous experience is necessary – everyone will be learning and growing as they go!
Improv For Kids Camp A (Ages 9-12) | July 13 to 17, 2026
Improv For Kids Camp B (Ages 9-12) | July 27 to 31, 2026
Your imagination is the limit when it comes to improv! At this camp, participants will learn the fundamentals of improv and have fun harnessing all the funny ideas swirling around in their brains. They will learn to say yes, trust their impulse and embrace happy failure. No previous experience is required, and by the end of the week, they will be able to put on a show made up on the spot from audience suggestions.
Acting for Kids Camp (Ages 9-12) | July 20 to 24, 2026
This camp helps young actors grow their confidence in expressing themselves onstage. Students will develop foundational acting techniques, learn how to interpret scripts, and how to respond creatively to new ideas and directions on impulse.
Drama & Improv Camp (Ages 12-15) | July 27 to 31, 2026
This camp is for the kid who wants to do it all to become a well-rounded performer! Come spend the week playing with improv techniques and games, and learning the principles of acting and scene study.
Magic With a Little Flair Camp (Ages 9-12) | July 27 to 31, 2026
Come discover the mystery behind the illusion and learn how to impress your friends with some new magic tricks! This exciting camp with illusionist Jay Flair will cover everything from card and coin tricks to close-up magic, with plenty of time for young magicians to explore and perfect some new routines.
Comedy Crash Course Camp (Ages 9-12) | August 4 to 7, 2026
Comedic expert Diane Webb is ready to help you find your funny bone! This camp will explore the fundamentals of physical comedy with a variety of comedic styles, including slapstick humour, improv, stage combat, and stand-up. Campers of all experience levels will enjoy a laugh-filled week creating their own hilarious material to perform on stage at an end-of-camp showcase!
Musical Theatre Camp (Ages 9-12) | August 3 to 6, 2026
Whether you’re new to musical theatre or looking to further your skills, this camp welcomes participants of all experience levels. Immerse yourself in singing, dancing, and acting, and engage in activities designed to boost your confidence and stage presence. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you’ll explore musicality, develop performance techniques, and make new friends in a fun and supportive camp environment.
Grindstone Theatre School Teen Summer Camps
Reel Deal: Acting for Film Camp (Ages 13-17) | July 6 to 10, 2026
Teens will take their talents to the big screen during this exciting 2 week camp presented in co-operation with the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA). Young actors will get an introduction to the fundamentals of the film world that includes lessons on etiquette on set, learning how to submit an audition and make a self-tape, plus participation in mock-auditions and casting. During the two weeks, students will learn techniques for acting with the camera, and work to film a series of short films written by their screenwriting peers, including two rounds of screenings of rough and final cuts!
Acting for Teens Camp (Ages 13-17) | July 13 to 17, 2026
This camp helps young actors dive into filmmaking over two weeks. Students start by learning the basics, such as on-set etiquette, audition submissions, self-taping, and important on-camera skills. They also get to try a mock audition, work on a film shoot using scripts written by their classmates, and watch two screenings of their own films, showcasing both rough and final cuts.
Improv For Teens Camp (Ages 13-17) | July 20 to 24, 2026
During this camp, creative teens can discover everything it takes to create comedic gold. They will learn about improv formats and developing premises, then stretch their creativity as they put it all into practice. They will learn to say yes, trust their impulse, embrace happy failure, and work together as a group to create a spectacular end-of-the-week performance based on audience prompts!
