🇨🇦 What’s Happening on Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature? 🇨🇦
Celebrate Alberta’s amazing diversity with music, dance, and cultural performances all day. Bring a blanket, grab a lawn chair, or walk around to enjoy shows and activities that highlight what makes our community special. You can also join the early-morning Edmonton Road Race, enjoy a Pancake Breakfast, and witness a moving Canadian Citizenship Ceremony. Experience different cultures without leaving the Legislature grounds.
Main Stage (12:00 PM to 5:00 PM)
The Main Stage will feature exciting performances that you won’t want to miss! Kick off Canada Day with Robert Clarke, the anthem singer for the Edmonton Oilers. Throughout the day, enjoy local talent like the indie-folk band Reuben and the Dark, keeping the energy up and everyone entertained.
South Stage (1:00 PM to 5:00 PM)
Watch some of Alberta’s top multicultural performers, including shows by Alberta Parks, a Lion Dance from Hong De Canada, and more dance performances from Al Jabal Dance and Tempo Franco Danse.
South Grounds (12:00 PM to 5:00 PM)
Check out the Family Fun Zone, where fun knows no age limit! Watch Spandy Andy and other live performers, make crafts at the Zuma Crafts tent, and visit the Alberta Parks exhibit. There will also be balloon artists, magicians, and entertainers walking around.
Roaming Entertainers (1:00 PM to 5:00 PM)
Take in the sounds of Edmonton’s premier brass ensemble, the Brasstactics, whose energetic performances will have you tapping your feet. Keep an eye out for jugglers, circus acts, and whimsical puppetry performances as they roam the Legislature Grounds. There’s always something happening around every corner!
East Grounds (12:00 PM to 5:00 PM)
Bring your friends and family to the East Grounds for classic yard games, sunshine if we’re lucky, and some friendly competition. You can also join in on interactive hula hoop fun here.
Alberta Legislature Building (12:30 PM to 4:30 PM)
A special highlight of the event is the chance to step inside the historic Legislature Building. Take a self-guided tour and enjoy the rare opportunity to walk on the Chamber floor, which is usually only open to Members of the Legislative Assembly. Explore the grand halls, learn about our province’s democratic traditions, and visit the Legislature Library to see the famous hamburger, a fun piece of local history. Make sure to visit before the last entry at 4:30 PM.
Visitor Centre (11:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
The Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre on the main floor of the Queen Elizabeth II Building welcomes everyone on Canada Day. Watch the film “Our People Our Province” in the Pehonan Theatre, explore the hands-on Democracy Discovery Centre, and shop for special souvenirs at Capital Gifts, with a 20% discount for Canada Day. Be sure to see the exhibit “Your Alberta Legislature: The Story of a Place” in the Borealis Gallery, which brings local history to life.
Food Trucks
Refuel throughout the day with a delicious selection from local food trucks stationed across the legislature grounds. Whether you are craving classic Canadian treats or international flavours, there’s something to satisfy every appetite.
Fireworks Finale (11:00 PM)
Cap off an unforgettable Canada Day with a spectacular fireworks display! Gather with your friends and family to witness the sky above the Kinsmen Sports Centre light up in a glorious finale.
To make the most of your Canada Day fun, come prepared! Pack sunscreen, bug spray, and a lawn chair or picnic blanket, and dress for the weather.
