The Edmonton Chinatown Dragon Festival is coming this August with vibrant celebrations the whole family will enjoy! This 10-day festival of events is brought to you by the Chinatown Transformative Collective, a group of passionate advocates who work to preserve the heritage and cultural significance of Chinatown. The Dragon Festival is an annual event that celebrates culture, community, and tradition, and encourages all ages to take part and learn about the heritage of Chinatown.   Mark your calendars for an exciting few weeks of culture, sport, and celebration!

Dragons in the Park:

The Dragons are taking over Louise McKinney Park! Join the Edmonton Dragon Festival for this exciting event filled with dragon and lion dances, flying dragon kites, dragon boats, and HUGE dragon inflatables in the park. Don’t miss the Scavenger Hunt (with prizes!), guided tours of the Chinese Garden, and meet the biggest rainbow dragon in Western Canada! From the opening ceremony to the last performance, this family-friendly event is packed full of fun! The first 50 families will receive a free kite!

Lion Dance Workshop:

Be bold! Be fierce! Channel your inner dragon! Learn the basics of this powerful cultural dance from experienced instructors from Hung Mon Athletic Club. No dance experience is necessary; just bring positive energy and get ready to experience the rhythm and tradition of lion dancing! Pre-registration is required.

Guided Dragon Food and Cultural Tours:

The best way to learn about the cultural and history of an area is through your stomach! Explore the vibrancy of Chinatown through the food that people have enjoyed for centuries. Special themed food experiences are available, including a Spicy Tour, a Meat Lover’s Tour, and a special Vietnamese Tour! Registration is required for this event and spaces fill up fast.

Canadian National Lion Dance Championship:

Get ready for the ultimate showdown of artistry and dance as the city of Edmonton hosts the Canadian National Lion Dance for the first time ever! Witness national and international teams battle it out in dance competitions, and thrill audiences will martial arts demos, cultural performances and a parade to celebrate!
