Get ready for a PAW-sitively fantastic Howl-O-Ween event at the Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) and City of Edmonton’s Animal Care & Control Centre (ACCC)! Furry friends and their families are invited for a ghoulish spectacle filled with adorable races, tasty treats for pups and their humans, and plenty of photo-worthy moments to capture the magic of Halloween for all family members. As we know, pets bring immense joy and love into our lives, and it’s amazing when we can bring them to fun, community-minded events to connect with other animals and families with furry friends.
Start your day of spooky fun with faBOOlous Humane Education activities and special behind-the-scenes tours of the EHS and ACCC. Learn how this shared campus works to support animals and families in the community and the incredible work they do behind the scenes to keep pets healthy and safe. Next up, all two-legged (human) visitors can transform their look with brilliant face paint to bring their most spooky or sweet visions to life. Pay homage to your pet and get your face painted like a pup, or transform into a spooky ghoul or ghost. Humans can also try their hand at axe-throwing. After all those hours of ball and frisbee throwing, we’re sure you will hit the bullseye!
Lastly, get ready for the fast race on little legs- the Howl-O-Weenie Dachshund races! Organized by the Alberta Dachshund Rescue, this race will not only be adorable for spectators to watch, but also showcase just how fast those little legs can move. If you have a Daschund in your family and they are comfortable with crowds and pets, register them to compete in the race via advanced registration by October 22, or sign them up in person on the day of the event.
Human friends are encouraged to come in costume, and may choose to dress up their furry friends as well. When putting our pets in costumes, it’s important to remember that not every pet loves the feeling of costumes. If they tolerate it well, be sure the costume fits securely, doesn’t restrict movement or vision, and is free of choking hazards! Pets attending the Howl-O-Ween event are required to be up-to-date on their vaccinations, be comfortable and sociable with other animals, and must be on a non-retractable leash at all times.
