Ready for a game of soccer, football, or a frisbee competition, but forgot the gear? This summer, the City of Edmonton is bringing FREE sports equipment to a park near you with the new Equip Sports Lockers. Just bring your energy and your phone! With the free Equip Sport app, you can borrow balls, frisbees, and more!

Kicking off June 2026, 30 brand-new lockers are landing in more than 20 parks, thanks to a partnership between the City of Edmonton and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. There’s no catch, no cost, no commitment. Just head out and play!

From basketball to bocce, there’s something for everyone waiting at parks across Edmonton.

⚽️ How to Access the City of Edmonton’s Free Sports Equipment?

It’s Easy! Here’s all you need to do:

  • Download the free Equip Sport App (Apple or Android)
  • Use the map to find your closest locker.
  • When you’re done, pop it back in the slot for the next player.

Lockers are open every day from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM throughout spring, summer and fall.

🏸 Where to Find a Free Sports Locker?

You’ll find 30 stations throughout 20+ Edmonton parks, often by community halls, schools, or big open fields. Some highlights include:

  • Confederation Park (LOTS of court and field gear)
  • Giovanni Caboto Park
  • Hawrelak Park

Each locker is stocked with the perfect gear for its park. Find the full map at edmonton.ca.

🏀 Why Free Sports Equipment Matters?

The initiative is part of Edmonton’s Live Active Strategy, making sure everyone, no matter their age, background, or budget, can get moving. The City tracks how these lockers boost play and inclusion, while Jumpstart’s mission is to break barriers so families and kids can get active where they already hang out. With a five-year pilot fully funded by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, this is a win for the community and one that’s built to last.

So the next time someone says “there’s nothing to do,” you know what to tell them. Grab the app, find a locker, and head to the park!
