Most parents are familiar with the range of swimming lessons offered by your local YMCA, but did you know they also offer a variety of other sports and recreation classes for all ages? Find something for almost every interest with the Fall programming options offered through YMCA of Northern Alberta. Offering a fun and encouraging environment devoted to health, fitness and wellness, Everyone can Thrive at the Y!

Aquatics Programs

With the YMCA Aquatic programs, your child can develop swimming skills and techniques while building new friendships and confidence in the water! Swim lessons and aquatic fitness programs are available for everyone from tiny toe dippers up to deep divers, and everything in between. Learn to swim with the Y’s enthusiastic coaches and easily track your child’s progression with ongoing feedback through a progress report system. Thousands of Albertans have learned to swim at the Y and so can your family!

Beyond swimming lessons, the YMCA is also proud to offer other aquatic training opportunities including the Keyano Swim Club and a Junior Lifeguard training program (12+).

Swimming sessions run regularly throughout the year. Upcoming Fall session dates are as follows:

  • Fall I session: September 12–October 30
  • Fall II: October 31–December 23

Sports and Recreation Programs

Hit the gymnasium and get those bodies moving with a variety of fun sports and recreation programs this Fall. The Y is proud to offer age-appropriate activities and games in a fun, safe and welcoming environment. Offerings will vary between the 5 Edmonton locations, but typically include basketball, floor hockey, multi-sport, soccer, Judo, volleyball and Hip Hop Dance.

For the more artistically inclined child, check out Creative Expressions! These courses for ages 5 through 12 offer a bit of everything including art, music and theatre games. Your child will love exploring various art mediums like painting or sculpting, performing through theatre games and expressing themselves with music.

Pre-school Programs

Even the youngest tots can get in on the fun and fitness at the Y! A multi-sport program will give kids ages 2-3 the chance to try out a variety of sports and skills with their parents, while ages 3-5 years can come test their independence in a non-parented class.

New this year, the Y Play and Learn program, can help your preschooler develop a strong foundation for school and learning in an exciting play-based environment. Following the National YMCA Playing to Learn Curriculum and Alberta’s Early Learning Care and Curriculum Framework, they will learn and explore the four core developmental areas of science, art, math, language, as well as explore physical literacy skills each session.

Leaders in Training

One other unique program YMCA of Northern Alberta is proud to offer is a 9-month Leaders in Training (LIT) course for ages 12 to 17. Youth can make friends and learn valuable skills through team-building activities and rewarding volunteer opportunities. Under the guidance of local community leaders and through workshops, they will learn relevant and practical skills to inspire and help others around them.
