What is Francofest?

Francofest is Halifax’s festival of Francophone cultures, taking place every October and offering a wide variety of events for everyone. The festival is organized by CCGH (Conseil Communautaire du Grand-Havre), alongside an organizing committee made up of local volunteers. This year, in 2026, we are celebrating Francofest’s 15th edition! This year’s theme is Flowers of the Francophonie.

I don’t understand French. Can I still participate?

Absolutely! Francofest offers many opportunities to experience Francophone cultures, no matter your level of French. Come enjoy a music show, play a sport, or visit our book fair and start your journey towards learning French through literature. Children’s books are a great place to start, even for adults!

Everyone is welcome to join the festivities, and our team is always happy to welcome new faces.

Book Fair (Salon du livre)

Did you know that Francofest hosts the only Francophone book fair in Nova Scotia? It’s a great opportunity to explore a wide selection of books in French and meet fascinating authors, including world-renowned Francophone advocate Zachary Richard!

The book fair also offers a rich program of events for families, especially on Saturday, October 31st. A variety of activities and exhibits will be available to the public, offering different ways to interact with literature and explore Francophone cultures. Participate in a painting workshop, sit in for a story, attend a panel discussion, enjoy a magic show, and more!

Activities

This year, Francofest will be presenting:

–            An outdoor projection at Nocturne Festival
–            A music show with Les Bluecharms and Le Diable à Cinq
–            An intergenerational walk at Shubie Park
–            2 pickleball initiation sessions
–            Karaoke
–            A rug hooking workshop
–            A workshop on cooking with flowers
–            The annual book fair (and its many activities!)
–            An interactive dance show
–            A music show with Zachary Richard
