It’s free! All kids and parents, with and without disabilities are invited for
an accessible traditional trick-or-treating experience that makes inclusion the sweetest part!

Happy Halloween to EveryBODY!

Over 400,000 children across Canada have one or more disability. There can be many obstacles preventing children from partaking in traditional Halloween activities alongside their friends and neighbours. Treat Accessibly was a grassroots movement that began in 2017 by the Padulo Family. Their goal is for all kids, with and without disabilities, to have a safe and fun Halloween experience  Parents, don’t forget to dress up too and get in on the fun!

How Can You Help?

The first step to ensuring that all children can participate in and have an enjoyable Halloween experience is to set up a trick-or-treat station accessible to all. That includes providing barrier-free access by:

  • Having a well-lit path to your trick-or-treat station
  • Make sure your driveway is obstacle-free. Consider moving your vehicle to the street or parking in the garage for the evening if you can.
  • A trick-or-treat station set up at the end of your driveway would allow for easier access

Other things to consider include the use of strobe lights or props with scary sounds could be too intense or overstimulating for some children. If you have a pet, you could keep them away from the activities as some children may feel intimidated near them.
