Find Out What’s Happening at Nutrien WinterShines 2019

When you live in a city with 6 months of winter, it’s probably best to throw a festival in somewhere! Nutrien WinterShines 2019 is Saskatoon’s celebration of the best the season and our city has to offer. From fine food to fun for the whole family, this festival has something for everyone. Here’s a few of the things going on this year at:

Nutrien WinterShines 2019

Kiddies Ice Play Area (Open Daily) – Located on the Farmer’s Market patio, the kiddies ice play area is your chance to bring little ones for some icy fun and play.

Ice Sculpture Exhibit (Open Daily) – Feast your eyes on beautiful icy creations just outside the Farmer’s Market.

PotashCorp WinterShines Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink (Open Daily) – Show up the Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink, located next to the Bessborough Hotel open daily during the festival from noon until 9pm!

IglooFest (Open Daily) – You never know what you might find in the gigantic igloo clearly visible from the Farmer’s Market–Giant Jenga, Sock Monkey Puppets, and performances to name a few! Check daily schedule for more information.

Snow Sports Park (Open Daily) – For just a couple of bucks, try your hand (or feet) at snowshoeing, schlockey, or a sports themed scavenger hunt!

Wintershines Snowcycle 2019 (January 27 | 9:30am – 2pm) – Sign on at 1pm on January 27th for the Wintershines Snowcycle challenge! Take your bi-pedal for a 2 km trek through paved trail, groomed ski areas and a demo course area including SnowTomb rollers, berms and an ice teeter totter. Categories include: Fatbike competitive category and non-competitive open category. Stay and play or watch and learn and follow the event up with a social beer at 9 Mile Legacy Brewing Company after the Monster Bike Event.

Market Food Tasting (January 31 | 6 – 8pm) – Sample all the best the Saskatoon Farmer’s Market has to offer on January 31st.

Opening Day Activities (January 26 | 12 – 8pm) – Come on down to the gigantic igloo for some fun activities including giant Jenga, watch an amazing performance by Sambatoon, an Opening Day Light’s Show and explore City of Saskatoon, Winter Cities YXE exhibit at the Saskatoon Farmer’s Market on January 26.

Nutrien Skating Party – On January 27 between noon and 4pm, enjoy a skating party at Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink next to Bessborough with music, prizes, and Timmies hot chocolate! FREE skates available for rental.

Something on Sundays the Remai Modern – Drop by the Cameco Learning Studio at the Remai Modern from 1-4 pm on Sunday, January 28th between 1 and 4 for a Winter Wonderland themed craft FREE with the price of admission!

Wide Open Soup Cook-Offs (Amateur chefs – January 27 | 5 – 7pm & Professional chefs – January 30 | 5 – 7pm) – If fine food tickles your fancy, for $10 at the door you can attend a good old-fashioned cook off where 10 local chefs cooking to impress YOU (the judge!) and warm your spirits with a lovely, hearty bowl of soup!

The Princess Shop’s Dress it Up Cupcake Contest (January 29 | 6 – 8pm) –  Come see and taste the cupcake creations of Saskatoon’s finest chefs at the Farmer’s Market at this special event. Families can purchase a punch card for $20.

Family Carnival (February 1 | 5 – 8pm) – Saskatoon Pride invites you to bring the whole family for hours of family-friendly games and challenges.

Saskatoon Pride Bingo Night (February 1 | 9:30 – 11:30pm) – Everyone will be dabbing at the 2nd annual Saskatoon Pride Bingo Night.

GO-Gordie-GO Wintershines Do-Athlon (February 2 | 9:30am – 12:30pm) – Head on down to the Gordie Howe Sport Complex at 1525 Ave. P South for a go a snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmen dressing, sled rides and more!

Chinese New Year Celebration (February 2 | 6 – 8pm) – The Chinese Dance School of Saskatchewan will is proud to present a celebration of all-thing Chinese culture! From displays to crafts to dance performances and more, this event will kick your New Year into new gear!

Learn to Play Yukigassen (February 3 | 2 – 3pm) – Discover this complex and strategy-filled game at the Farmer’s Market.
