When you live in a city with 6 months of winter, it’s probably best to throw a festival in somewhere! Nutrien WinterShines 2020 is Saskatoon’s celebration of the best the season and our city has to offer. From fine food to fun for the whole family, this festival has something for everyone. Here’s a few of the things going on this year at:

Frigid Fun (Open Daily*)

*** Please note the Festival is closed on January 27th ***

Kiddies Ice Play Area  – Located on the Market Square patio, the kiddies ice play area is your chance to bring little ones for some icy fun and play.

Enchanted Ice Garden– Visit the Market Square daily during WinterShines and feast your eyes on a Chinese style garden with ponds and sculptures designed by Peter from Fire and Ice.

IglooFest  – You never know what you might find in the gigantic light-up igloo near Riverlanding South. This snow home is FULL of family-fun, games, activities, visits from Parks Canada and more. Check daily schedule for more information.

Nutrien WinterShines Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink – Show up the Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink, located next to the Bessborough Hotel open daily during the festival from noon until 9pm!

Super Special Events

January 25

Opening Day Activities – There’s no better way to kick-off a winter festival than with a party! Check out the Nutrien WinterShines Market all day and stay for the Opening Ceremonies between 6 and 8pm.

January 25 & 26, February 1 & 2

Nutrien WinterShines Market – Explore all the special treats of one-of-a-kind Market with a special winter flair.

January 25

Nutrien Skating Party – Between noon and 4pm, enjoy a skating party at Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink next to Bessborough with music, prizes, and Timmies hot chocolate! FREE skates available for rental.

January 25 & 26, February 1 & 2

Snow Sports Park – Sign the waiver and enjoy a scavenger hunt, games and more!

January 26 & 31 , February 1 

WinterShines Bonfire  – Warm up with a cozy bonfire this festival season outside the Market Square building.

Wide Open Soup Cook-Offs (Novice Chefs – January 26 & Professional Chefs – January 29) – If fine food tickles your fancy, for $10 at the door you can attend a good old-fashioned cook off where 10 local chefs cooking to impress YOU (the judge!) and warm your spirits with a lovely, hearty bowl of soup!

January 28

The Princess Shop’s Dress it Up Cupcake Contest  –  Come, see and taste the cupcake creations of Saskatoon’s finest chefs at this special event. Families can purchase a punch card for $20.

January 30

Paint Nite  – Brushes will be flying to create masterpieces at Nutrien WinterShines first ever Paint Nite.

January 31 

Winter Wonderland Carnival  – It’ll be a family affair at WinterShines 2020 Winter Wonderland Carnival full of indoor carnival games and activities.

February 2

Remai Modern Art Caravan – Creative fun on wheels will make an appearance at the festival on February 2nd for budding artists to try their hands at some wintery crafts.

Closing Day Activities  – Say sayonara to another festival year with a Winter Market, a showing of Groundhog Day between 2 and 4pm and other special closing day activities.
