Celebrating its 29th Season in 2018, Bard on the Beach is one of Canada’s largest not-for-profit, professional Shakespeare Festivals. Presented in a magnificent setting on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, the Festival offers Shakespeare plays, related dramas, and several special events in two performance tents from June through September.
Bard on the Beach is celebrating families! Expose your kids to Shakespeare early and they’ll be hooked for life. We took our 5 & 7 year olds to last year’s Family Nights production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. Prior to the performance we made sure they were familiar with the play’s plot line. The staging by Bard on the Beach made it so the kids were entertained throughout despite not understanding every word uttered. The Merry Wives of Windsor production contained loads of music, highly entertaining characters, prat falls (which delight “kids” of all ages), great costuming and riveting staging. Our boys were hooked and are truly looking forward to the 2017 production. Three Family Nights are designated for the 2018 season: June 26, July 24, and August 21. There is even family-package pricing available, you just need to call the Bard Box Office at 604-737-0625. The family-friendly production for the 2017 season is Much Ado About Nothing.
