Halloween is more than just ghosts and ghouls; it’s also a meaningful celebration of life, light, and culture for those who celebrate Día de los Muertos. Get in the Halloween spirit as you journey into an immersive and vibrant display at Britannia Mine Museum’s Day of the Dead Halloween experience!
Britannia Mine Museum is an exceptionally fun and engaging attraction any time of year, but this Halloween promises to be a joyful and meaningful celebration that brings together art, storytelling, and history in a fun, family-friendly way. Dedicated to the rich traditions of Mexican culture, visitors will begin their journey on an immersive Underground Tour to learn about the Elements of Alebrijes. Here, a guide will lead you on a journey to gather four special elements: earth, air, fire, and water, to explore the fantastical creatures of Mexican folklore. Moving above ground, visitors can stroll through the Monarch Forest, explore a Mexican Village, and travel through the festive Calavera Tunnel. Here, families will enjoy making a special paper marigold, which is believed to bring spirits back with their vibrant colour and scent! Learn about the history and tradition of ofrendas (alters) and leave your own mark by writing a special message or leaving a drawing for a loved one on the altar.
Kids will also love decorating vibrant and intricate Sugar Skull colouring sheets as they learn about the history of this tradition to symbolize the joy of remembering lost loved ones. Once your kids have had their fill of colouring, embark on an enriching and educational Scavenger Hunt starting in the Machine Shop! Here you will learn about the migration journey of monarch butterflies. Along your scavenger hunt, families will uncover hidden clues as they trace the migration from Canada to Mexico that occurs each year.
Make Britannia Mine Museum your top stop for a unique and vibrant Halloween or cultural experience this October! It’s an explosion of colour, tradition and storytelling ideal for all families! In addition to the Day of the Dead activities, visitors can explore the Beaty Lundin Visitors Centre, the Family Play Area, the Gold Panning Pavilion, the Mineral Gallery, and the other great exhibits around Britannia Mine Museum. There are so many areas to visit that families can easily spend an entire day at the museum.
