Just like the human world, the animal world is full of families of all shapes and sizes. Carousel Theatre for Young People celebrates all family compositions and is pleased to present “The Papa Penguin Play.” This brand new play has been specially co-commissioned by Carousel Theatre for Young People and the Vancouver International Children’s Festival in association with ZeeZee Theatre.

It’s a wonderful little penguin’s first birthday, and we are all invited to attend and learn about a very special family. Join the musical celebration and meet Peaches and Izzy, two outstanding male penguins who delight audiences of all ages with their daily performances at the zoo. As the main attraction at the Zoo, they are charismatic and lively and showcase their talents to visitors, but they can’t help but notice one thing they lack. Izzy and Peaches realize that the other penguins around them have started to lay eggs and new chicks are being born daily. They long to be parents to their own little chick, and wonder if their day will ever come. Fortunately, with the help of a supportive Zoo Keeper, Izzy and Peaches realize their dream and become parents after all.

Written by Dave Deveau, Co-Artistic and Managing Director of Carousel Theatre for Young People, “The Papa Penguin Play” is a musical masterpiece supported by a talented and diverse set of creatives who have incorporated whimsical set design, outstanding props and puppetry, and delightful lighting and sound effects to highlight the playfulness of the show. This 50-minute production is best suited for ages 3+, but adults and children alike will enjoy it as they cheer for these strong little penguins and celebrate their joy. Carousel Theatre for Young People presents spectacular theatre for children that educates and illuminates important topics for children and adults alike. “The Papa Penguin Play” celebrates the uniqueness of each family and reminds audiences that no dream is ever out of reach if there is a supportive network around you.
