Outdoors, animals and adventure: the perfect summer camp trifecta. Welcome to summer camp at Rosewood Hunters & Jumpers in Vancouver!

Horseback riding is not traditionally an easily-accessibility sport for urban dwellers; but as Vancouverites, we are immensely fortunate to have the community of Southlands close at hand. Southlands is a designated equestrian community located just minutes from downtown and bordered by the McCleery and Point Grey golf courses to the east and west, the Fraser River to the south, and Southwest Marine Drive to the north. This ‘hidden gem’ of Vancouver is home to more than 300 horses, numerous public and private barns, as well as the 16-acre Southlands Riding Club. The Club – with more than 400 members – offers everything from competitions to therapeutic riding and a horse rescue and rehabilitation program. Established in 1943, the Club is the hub of equestrian sport for riders of all ages and disciplines in our city.

Camp Rosewood Horse Back Riding Spring Break CampsNestled within the Southlands community – within walking or biking distance from Kerrisdale, and conveniently located on a major bus route – Rosewood Hunters & Jumpers is a hidden gem all of its own. The moment you turn into the driveway you’ll be greeted by horses and ponies of all shapes, sizes and colours. From rank beginners to seasoned show competitors, the riders at Rosewood demonstrate equal diversity; there is something for everyone at Rosewood, regardless of your experience or goals.

At Camp Rosewood, children are assigned a horse or pony to work with for the duration of their camp experience. In working with these gentle (albeit often very large) creatures, children not only hone riding skills in the saddle but also learn all about horse care, grooming, feeding and stable management. Horses and ponies teach children valuable lessons about communication, trust, empathy and problem-solving. They also teach responsibility, help children to gain confidence and foster a sense of achievement each time the horse-human connection is made.
