Technology is all around us; it’s time to teach your kids how to use it as a tool and develop their own computational thinking! At Daedalos Academy Summer Camps, kids strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are crucial in STEAM careers and life in general. Campers enrolled in week-long camps gain engineering and design skills by building robots that actually function, move, and respond to stimuli.
Why Choose Daedalos Academy?
A women-led and family-owned business, Daedalos Academy is the brainchild of Ana Golland, with the support of her LEGO & robotics-enthusiast husband, Barish. Together, the educators have over 20 years of experience in K-12 education and a passion for robotics and STEM education. Since 2014, Daedalos Academy has been a leader in robotics education for kids thanks to the small class sizes (6 students: 1 teacher ratio) and focus on hands-on, interactive learning. Daedalos Academy is the only robotics camp of its kind in Vancouver and is LEGO Education Exclusive, meaning your child is receiving top-notch learning from qualified LEGO Education instructors using a LEGO-certified robotics curriculum.
What Happens During Camp?
Each camp begins with an idea. Students learn prototyping, testing, and iterating through the carefully guided design process. Armed with their own unique robot idea, young campers learn how to build and operate a variety of mechanical constructions. Block coding is used to program small motors and sensors, leading to an exciting, operable robot. As campers become more comfortable with the basics of robotics, more complex block coding is taught and utilized to teach the robots how to complete fun missions and a sequence of events. During camp, students are communicating, problem-solving, and engaging in fun and challenging activities. Outdoor snack breaks and lunch breaks provide the space for friendships to flourish and for kids to spend time outdoors. Families have the option to enroll for full days (9am-3pm) or for half-days (9am-12pm)
What Camp is Right for My Child?
Camps are organized by grade level for optimal challenge level, with some overlap for kids who are further ahead or behind their peers.
Beginner Bots | Grades 1 – 2
In this camp, kids build with LEGO Education WeDo 1.0 and 2.0 sets to build simple mechanical robots with small, programmable motors and sensors. Campers learn how to use block coding and work in teams to develop their creations.
Young Engineers | Grades 3 – 7
Teamwork, communication, and pair programming are key for Young Engineers! Using LEGO Education programs SPIKE Prime and MINDSTORMS, kids will learn Scratch-based drag-and-drop programming and how to program sensors and fun missions for their robot.
AI Coders | Grades 5 – 8 *NEW*
AI can be used safely and to support learning, and at Daedalos Academy, instructors will guide campers to use Agentic AI Test-and-Learn Workflow. Using AI, students will program their robots with Python to complete complex tasks.
