Old Time Family Fun at Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm (updated September 9)

Historic Stewart Farm - Family EventsTravel back in time with a visit to Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm. This picturesque site interprets the time period of 1890-1920. Features of the farm include a furnished farmhouse, pole barn with agricultural tools and machinery, boathouse, threshing shed, root cellar, and heritage gardens and orchard. Admission is by donation.

Throughout the year the Historic Stewart Farm hosts themed events that are family-friendly. Check out the great events scheduled for 2019.

Historic Stewart Farm - Seedy SaturdaySeedy Saturday:

Get a head start on your garden with the annual seed & plant sale at Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm. You can shop for rare heirloom vegetable, herb & flower seeds, get tips from the heritage garden volunteers. There will be Master Gardeners on hand to answer your questions. Everyone is welcome to visit the heritage flower & vegetables gardens. Kids will enjoy learning some gardening skills with “seedy” crafts & activities. This is a FREE, drop-in, all ages event.

Historic Stewart Farm - Old Fashioned EasterOld Fashioned Easter:

After your Easter egg hunt at home, make your way to the Farm to continue the fun. Even meet the Easter bunny himself! Other family fun activities include: DIY rabbit ears, decorate egg shaped cookies, scavenger hunts, face painting. While there is no egg hunt at this year’s event, families are invited to enjoy the grounds, walk through Elgin Heritage Park and utilize the Farm’s photo area until 3pm.

Royal Victorian Party:

Travel back in time and experience 1845! The whole family will enjoy a royal celebration with dancing, birthday cake and a chance to meet Queen Victoria herself. The Queen will cut birthday cake and grace visitors with selfies and royal portraits. Waist coats and feathered hats are encouraged but not mandatory. Kids will have fun creating a bejeweled crown and scepter as well as taking a turn churning ice cream the old fashioned way. Families can have fun playing croquet, make bubbles and hula hoop on the farmhouse lawn. This is a FREE, drop-in, all ages event.

HIstoric Stewart Farm - Father's Day Open HouseFather’s Day Open House:

Most little boys love trains & we’re pretty sure there are a few number of Dads out there who share that love. Take Dad out for a memorable date at Historic Stewart Farm filled with trains. The day’s attractions include: the Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club and their display model trains, train rides courtesy of the Pacific Trackless Trains, choo choo crafts to make Dad a special Father’s Day card, conductor style dress up, sack races with Dad on the lawn, lemonade and coffee on the farmhouse verandah, baked treats made on the wood burning stove in the farmhouse kitchen, and tours of the restored 1890s farmhouse with a costumed guide. This is a FREE, drop-in, all ages event.

Historic Stewart Farm - Dominion DayDominion Days:

Canada is turning 152 and the Historic Stewart Farm is celebrating! Surrey’s pioneers knew how to party with live music, dance performances, carnival games, crafts and more. See it for yourself at this free, all ages family event, including: Surrey’s own re-enactment troupe, The Re-Enactors, recreating Surrey’s settlement years, old-time moustache painting and family portrait photo opportunities, , hand-churned ice cream, popcorn and lemonade on the farmhouse verandah, pioneer crafts and spinning demonstrations, pioneer dress up with period costumes, and tours of the 1894 farmhouse with a costumed guide

Historic Stewart Farm - Fabulous Farm RaceFabulous Farm Race:

Bring along your friends, family and anyone else you need to help you win this old time scavenger hunt. Race to the water pump and do a load of laundry, dress up like a pioneer, and try your hand at a whole host of pioneer activities. Be sure to check-in by 2pm to ensure your spot. Admission is FREE.

Olde Harvest Fair - Historic Stewart FarmOlde Harvest Fair:

The first annual fall fair was held in 1888 at Historic Stewart Farm. Everyone is invited to help re-create that old time fun. The day’s activities will include: local vendors and artisans, live music and dancing, warm apple cider, Surrey’s re-enactment troupe The Re-Enactors, face painting for children, potato sack races, a scarecrow relay and a fun game of needle-in-a-haystack. Don’t miss the cider pressing and butter making demonstrations. Everyone is invited to take a tour of the 1894 farmhouse.

Haunted Farm - Historic Stewart FarmHaunted Farm:

A shadowy barn, creaky floorboards, rustling trees – visit the haunted farm if you dare! This safe and fun family drop-in shares old-time All Hallow’s Eve traditions, crafts and spooky treats. Light-hearted friendly “ghosts’ just might be rattling doorknobs and making special appearances! Admission is FREE.

Victoria Christmas Evening - Historic Stewart FarmVictorian Christmas Evening:

Escape the holiday hustle bustle with an old-fashioned Christmas. Enjoy the Victorian decorated Christmas tree, live music, crafts and tasty treats from the wood burning stove.  Make a lantern to take on a caroling walk in the park and snap a photo with Father Christmas.
