Old Time Family Fun at Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm (updated November 7)

Historic Stewart Farm - Family EventsTravel back in time with a visit to Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm. This picturesque site interprets the time period of 1890-1920. Features of the farm include a furnished farmhouse, pole barn with agricultural tools and machinery, boathouse, threshing shed, root cellar, and heritage gardens and orchard. Admission is by donation.

Throughout the year the Historic Stewart Farm hosts themed events that are family-friendly. Check out the great events scheduled for 2018.

Heritage Christmas:

Escape the holiday hustle bustle with an old-fashioned Christmas. Enjoy the Victorian decorated Christmas tree, live music, crafts and tasty treats from the wood burning stove. New for 2018: Santa will be taking present request and posing for photos in the barn from 12:30-2:30pm. Arrive early to get your rustic, authentic Christmas photo.

Old Fashioned Easter

Take part in the FREE all-ages Easter egg hunt at the picturesque Historic Stewart Farm. The kids will love the face-painting, rabbit ears craft, and bunny Olympic competitions.

Seedy Saturday:

Get a head start on your garden with the annual seed & plant sale at Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm. You can shop for rare heirloom vegetable, herb & flower seeds, get tips from the heritage garden volunteers. There will be Master Gardeners on hand to answer your questions. Everyone is welcome to visit the heritage flower & vegetables gardens. Kids will enjoy learning some gardening skills with “seedy” crafts & activities. This is a FREE, drop-in, all ages event.

Mother’s Day Tea:

Treat mum like the queen she is with tea at the Farm. Nibble cucumber sandwiches, indulge in sweets and scones baked in our wood stove, and make a craft together. The cost is $16.50 per person. Please note this event is intended for children aged 5+ years.

Royal Victorian Party:

Travel back in time and experience 1845! The whole family will enjoy a royal celebration with dancing, birthday cake and a chance to meet Queen Victoria herself. The Queen will cut birthday cake and grace visitors with selfies and royal portraits. Waist coats and feathered hats are encouraged but not mandatory.  Entertainment includes: the Vancouver Morris Men perform their colourful and lively dance, the Tiddley Cove Morris dancers and the fabulous Little Mountain Step n Clog. Clap your hands and revel in the reels of the Brigadoon Scottish Highland dance group. Kids will have fun creating a bejeweled crown and scepter as well as taking a turn churning ice cream the old fashioned way. Families can have fun playing croquet, make bubbles and hula hoop on the farmhouse lawn. This is a FREE, drop-in, all ages event.

Father’s Day Open House:

Most little boys love trains & we’re pretty sure there are a few number of Dads out there who share that love. Take Dad out for a memorable date at Historic Stewart Farm filled with trains. The day’s attractions include: the Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club and their display model trains, train rides courtesy of the Pacific Trackless Trains, choo choo crafts to make Dad a special Father’s Day card, conductor style dress up, sack races with Dad on the lawn, lemonade and coffee on the farmhouse verandah, baked treats made on the wood burning stove in the farmhouse kitchen, and tours of the restored 1890s farmhouse with a costumed guide. This is a FREE, drop-in, all ages event.

Dominion Days:

Canada is turning 151 and the Historic Stewart Farm is celebrating! Surrey’s pioneers knew how to party with live music, dance performances, carnival games, crafts and more. See it for yourself at this free, all ages family event, including: Surrey’s own re-enactment troupe, The Re-Enactors, recreating Surrey’s settlement years, old-time moustache painting and family portrait photo opportunities, , hand-churned ice cream, popcorn and lemonade on the farmhouse verandah, pioneer crafts and spinning demonstrations, pioneer dress up with period costumes, and tours of the 1894 farmhouse with a costumed guide

Amazing Farm Scavenger Hunt:

Bring along your friends, family and anyone else you need to help you win this old time scavenger hunt. Race to the water pump and do a load of laundry, dress up like a pioneer, and try your hand at a whole host of pioneer activities. Be sure to check-in by 2pm to ensure your spot. You can also download this race ticket, show it at the welcome table, and receive 1 minute off your completion time! Admission is FREE.

Olde Harvest Fair:

The first annual fall fair was held in 1888 at Historic Stewart Farm. Everyone is invited to help re-create that old time fun. The day’s activities will include: ;ocal vendors and artisans, live music and dancing, warm apple cider, Surrey’s re-enactment troupe The Re-Enactors, face painting for children, potato sack races, a scarecrow relay and a fun game of needle-in-a-haystack. Don’t miss the cider pressing and butter making demonstrations. Everyone is invited to take a tour of the 1894 farmhouse.

Haunted Halloween:

A shadowy barn, creaky floorboards, rustling trees – visit the haunted farm if you dare! This safe and fun family drop-in shares old-time All Hallow’s Eve traditions, crafts and spooky treats. Light-hearted friendly “ghosts’ just might be rattling doorknobs and making special appearances! Admission is FREE.
